Whittemore-Maan Wedding jl The Graham Methodist church was the setting for the wedding of Jeanne Florence Whittemore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Minor Whittemore, and Clinton McClain Mann, son of Mr. ami Mrs. Coy McKinnley Mann of Bur lington, Sunday at 5 p. m. Rev. J. J. Boone, pastor of the church, officiated with the double ring ceremony. i The bride had as her matron of honor her only sister, Mrs. Robert B. Saunders. Parent-Teacher Meeting Harper Barnes, local attorney, ivho has recently returned home ifter serving with the navy in rokyo with the naval intelligence service, was guest speaker last rhursday night at the local PTA luring the regular monthly meet ing in the school auditorium. During the business session the sum of $100 was donated to the school athletic fund. , President Morris T. Burke, who presided over the meeting, ap pointed Wprth Thompson, Alton Utley and Mrs. S. C. Beck to a committee to arrange housing fa cilities for members of the school [acuity next year. An election of officers for the new fiscal year was held during the meeting and Morris T. Burke was re-elected as president. Oth er officers are R. L. Hill, vice president ; Miss Emma Cox, sec retary; and Mrs. W. E. Bason, treasurer. i County School Faculty Meeting 1" acuity members or tbe county schools met at the Graham school suditorium last Friday evening for their regular county-wide ;eacher3 meeting. Highlight of th? program was a series of panel iihcussions on current teaching :opics. The Graham Glee club under the direction of Miss GerakUne Wall, rendered several numbers, which A on them high honors in the state listrict music contest. Sound film "Teaching /with the Classroom Film" was also shown jo the group. Kiwanis Club Meeting Tom Ellis, bookkeeping and tax ?xpedt of Cedar Grove, was the special guest of the local Kiwanis :lub during the regular meeting Monday evening in the Scout hut. Ellie, who gained nationwide rec ognition of his Dollar-A-Week bookkeeping system through a Saturday Evening Post story last month, gave an interesting talk on "The Little Man and Bookkeep ing." Also included on the Kiwanis program was a nail driving con test between Ed Storey of the lo cal club and Ed Herren, member of the Durham Kiwanis club. Herren headed a three man visit ing delegation from Durham which also included N. A. Thomas and George Hackney. The contest was won by Storey. DEATHS Mrs. Mary Burke York, 68, of Route 1, died at her home last Thursday morning following thre days of critical illlness, She was the wife of the late Archie P Yorfc and was a native of Richmond county. Funeral services were conduct ed at the home last Friday after noon by Rev. VV- R- Buhler and Rev. Ben Cox. Burial was ill Lin wood cemetery. She was a mem ber of the Bethany church. Surviving are one daughter, tw sisters, and four grandchildren. Thomas William Land, 70, of Saxapahaw, died Monday morning at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Albert Smith, following a cri tical illness of two months. Funeral services were conduct ed at the graveside Tuesday after noon. Burial was in the Goodwill Baptist church cemetery near Spray. Surviving are one daughter and five grandchildren. John Ladaell Faulkner, 26, ol Thomasville, Ga., died at his hom< last Thursday morning, He iwas the son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Faulkner of Burlington. Funeral services were conduct ed Tuesday afternoon from thi residence of Mrs. Gertrude Faulk ner, mother of the deceased, b> Rev. George W. Swlnney. Surviving are his wife, Mrs Ann Slater Faulkner; two sons, t sister, four brothers and Lis par ents of Burlington. I Mrs. Inez Munday of Burling ton died Wednesday night of las week at the home of her daugh ter at Cramerton. She was 61 years old and had been ill abou six months. , Funeral services were conducl ed at the Church of God in Bui lington Friday afternoon. Burii was in Linwowod cemetery. Surviving are three daughter two sons, three brothers and nm grandchildren.
