Burton May as .associate hostess.. Dahlia* cosmos and other fall flowers were used for decoration in the hall and living room. Mrs. M. E. Younc. president, was in the chair for the business routine, and club booka were exchanged among the members. For the proigram, on Southern fic tion, Miss Alice Stockel of GTeenaboro spoke in a delightfully informal man ner on many of her interesting ex periences hi the "book business" touch ing elbows with writers and her im pressions of some of the current best sellers by Southern authors. At the conclusion of the meeting the hostesses, assisted by Miss Cora Harden Stratford and Mrs. Henry s. May, served glngerale over ice cj"eam. brownies and salted nuts. During the social hour Mrs. Harper Barnes was given a 'mother and daughter" shower, honoring the recent arrival of young daughter, little June Harper Barnea. Garden Club Meets The October meeting of the Graham Garden Club was held at thel borne of Mra W. A. McAdams on Tuesday after noon of last week. Mrs. 8amuel C. Beck, president, pre sided over the business session. The Program was then tuttied ovek to Mrs. L. C. Allen who gave a most interesting and informative talk on "Preparing Tor Spring," and "Conkuering Stubborn 8oll." The second part of the program was a Fall Flow Show by the members The judges for tho show were Miss Louise Thompson and Miss Cornelia Mima. Mrs. W. A. McAdams won a blue ribbon for center dining table decoration; Mra. John Q. Black re ceived red ribbons for small dahlias and for chrysanthemums displayed in a Copper bowl. Mrs. Ben Lee was given a red ribbon for dahlias; Mrs. McAdams received a white ribbon for white chrysanthemums; and Mrs. J. L John son a red ribbon for marigold arrange ment. Mrs. A M. Stack and Mrs. Walter Bason were welcomed into the club as new members. Rotary Club Meeting Hobart T. Steel, assistant fire chief in Burlington, spoke on safety and fire prevention last Thursday night at the meeting of the Qranam Rotary club at Green Gables. Guests other than the speaker were w. E.
