At the end of the fiftn inning the game was call ed on account of rain. Quite an enjoyable partj was given at the home of Mr. E. H. Evans, near town, by Messrs. Hal Harris and Fleming Fuller on last Friday night to a nunlber of their young friends. Good music and in teresting games dominated, whilej excellent refreshments added ; roach to the occasion. The public are cordiallv invit ed to be present at the closing exer cises of Pope's school, March 19. The exercises will be held in the church and will begin about 1:3Q o'clock, p. m. Harris, Henderson and Winston undertook to amputate the broken leg of Mr. Will Duke on Monday. The operation was begun and a long gash made in the flesh when the patient collapsed under the -anaesthetic ;md the work was aban doned. It was with difficulty Mr. Duke was resuscitated. He is now in a precarious condition (Tuesday) ' Miss Nellie Conway entertain ed a number of her friends at Cards n Tuesday night of last" week in henor of Miss Eleanor Cooke, of - Lomisburg.
