Justice w at Youngs- ville this week - conducting a meet ins. " : r-Quite a number of our citizens went oyer to Youngsville Monday to see the game of ball between Louisbnrg and Youngsville. -Miss Ora Winston is filling the position of assistant cashier at tie Citizens Bank, while Mr. Geo. L. Cooke is off on hil vacation. The base ball team went to Youngsville and played the team from that place last . Thursday. Youngsville won to the tune of 8 to The small boys went over to Louisburg yesterday to play a game of ball with the small ' boys of that place. Quite a nice game was bad ana the score resulted , 4 to 3 in favor of the Franklinton bos. The force of street hands under supervision of Chief A. B. Cooke is making some very great and much needed improvements on the streets. This is a good start and Chief Cooke informs us that it will be continued until the town is put in good shape. Teachers Institutes will be held at Franklinton for the colored teach ers, by B. F. Person, eommencing August 23rd and closing on the 27th. This institute will be of great benefit to the colored teachers ot Franklin and adjoining counties. For further information address B. F, Person, Franklinton, N. C The work on the good reads that has been started at the old chair factory and directed towards the new river bridge, is such that will be a credit to all those who have had anything to do with it and that will be appreciated by all those hav ing occasion to use it for many years to come. Citizens of Frank linton township go over and take a look at it as it is completed and you will easily see the wisdom of good roads. The little boys of Kittrell came over and played a double header with the little ones of this place Thursday. The home team won both games. The first resulted in a score of 7 to 4, a very go&i game. The second the home team shut out the visitors, the score being 13 to 0. Both teams seemed to vie with each other in trying to get the smallest players. The playing on the part of the little tellow from Kittrell was especially good (he be ing the smallest one on the ground, Franklinton's battery Kid Wpiams and Shem Cooke deserve praise. Company F, Franklin Guard, had their first drill after returning from camp at Morehead last Friday. On account of the barbecue at Youngsville there were quite a number absent. The company held a target practice instead of a regular drill and some of the best scores Rey Mr. Justice Resigns. Rev. T. B. Justice, who has been pastor of the Baptist church here for the past seven years, tendered his resignation on last Sunday to take effect on October the first. He has accepted a call to Benson. Mr. Justice and his family have made many warm friends during their stay in our midst who will re gret very much to see them leave. Mr. Justice is a man of stroDg Character and has the power of ex pressing himself in good clear and forceful language which should be greatly appreciated by any religious .gathering. And while our people very much regret to give him up, they heartily commend him and his good family to the people of Benson. .t - r r- : . . j r ivfyr, (Tt Cf2 (T-n1 (L III v i. , . v .
