A FatherUpon Unwise Advice Caused the Arrest of a Pop- uiar benool leacher, But Afterwards' the Case Was Withdrawn. Quite a crowd of prominent citi zens from the Mount Pleasant sec tion were Dere Monday in attend ance on Recorders Court when it was expected that an incident oecnring I in the school at that place would be aired in court. However the matter was satisfactorily adjusted and in a manner which can only redound to the best interest of all connected With the affair, and which to a cer tain extent effected the educational system of tha entira county. It seern that some time ago Prof R. A. Burt, principal of the Mount Pleasant High School, had occasion to chastize the son ot Mr. W. H. Glover for some-infraction ot the school discipline; It is alleged there had been some feeling existing be tween: Mr. Glover and Prof. Burt prior, to the chastizing episode and this, together with the statements of the-sonTcaused Mr. Glover to secure a warrant against- Prof. Burt charg ing the latteri with , inhumanly and most cruelty beating youngi Glover. The matter was sent up to Recorder Austin and was to ' hava been fully investigated Monday as above stated but when the case was called Messrs J, A. lrm er and R. A. P. Cooley, attorneys for Mr. Glover, held a con. ference wittf -Misers. F.S. SpruiU and 'eon T. Vaughan, attorneys far Prof Burt, Ik) the .end of , effecting a . com- promise. This Judge Austin said without reference to the case in question. He declared the school teacfier to be the poorest paid people in the State and that the sacrifice made by many were beyond the conception or full appreciation of the public, and many times thesa same sacrifices were rewarded by cursing and abase. Parental .inter ference was a, dangerous thing for tbe child for, said Judge Austin, :had my parents interfered or taken sides" with me every time I received a deaerved flogging there is no teach er in the State who could have con- uuiiwi.rue. i nave naa experience both as pupil and teacher and it is frcm this experience I have arrived at the conclusion that it is best tor teacher, child and parent that they eo-operate in this important matter of educating the boys and girls of our county.
