Feb. 8.?(Spec ial)?Renewed and active Interest In the BANKHEAD NATIONAL HIGH WAY which starts at Washington and traverses the States of Virginia, N. & S. Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mis sissippi, Tennessee. Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona and California is being aroused. Six of the above states through' which the Bankhead Highway traverses, legisla tures are now In session. Resolu tions designating the BANKHEAD NATIONAL HIGHWAY as an inter state Highway through these several states have been adopted or are now favorably Dending in these Legisla tures naming the Bankhead National Highway as an interstate highway and are joining In memorializing the Fed eral Government to designate said road as a National Highway and to co operate with the states in its con struction and maintenance. It is doubtful whether any other business is run on so close u margin of profit This is bringing the producer and the consumer pretty close together?which should be the object of any industry turning raw material into a useful form. This remarkable showing is due to enormous volume, perfected .facilities (packing plants strategically located, branch houses, refrigerator cars, etc.), and an !army of men and women chosen and trained to do their special work. This, and many other points of interest, are found in the Swift & Company Year Book for 1919, just published which is brought out for the public as well as for the 25,000 Swift & Company shareholders. The Year Book also represents the packer's side of the Federal Trade Commission investigation, upon which Congress is asked to base action against the industry. This resolution memorial-1 ires Congress to speedily cooperate in | building and maintaining this road i and urges upon President Wilson to take Federal action in regard to the same. The Alabama Legislature has passed this resolution, which is simi lar in all of the states except desig nating the towns and cities through which the road traverses. Carolina, Georgia, Alabama. Tennessee. Arkansas and California, which they have designated as the BANKHEAD NATIONAL HIGH WAY in recognition of the thirty-two! years of service in the Congress of the United States of the Senior Senator1 from Alabama and of his distinguished 1 advocacy of the Federal improvement | of the highways; and Whereas: The route has been loca ted after inspection and approval by a representative of the United States Bureau of Public Roads and an impar tial Pathfinding Committee and has the approval of the Highway Commis sion of this State; and Wild l*its .
