N, C.. an second class matter. The U. S. Senate Tuesday adopted the Democratic tax measure by a de cisive vote over that of Sec. Mellon. Secretary of the Navy Denby sent his resignation to President Cooiidge Monday. ThlB Is the first, others should follow. According to reports coming out from Washington, Attorney General Daugherty has told President Cool ldge that he will not resign. It might become so hot for him that he will have to. The suggestion made by the FRAN'ft LIN TIMES 4ast week that Judge Grady be 'induced to enter the fight for Governor of North Carolina gavt. expression to quite a strong sentiment according to the many reports we have heard. If Judge Grady's popu larity In other parts of the State Is anyways similar to Franklin he would be an easy winner. The mention of Hon. Josephus Dan iels for President of the United States brings much pleasure to all North Carolina. In his conduct of the res ponsible position of Secretary of ths Navy he has made an enviable record. He is fully capable and the people have confidence in his honesty and 1ft. tegrlty. While North Carolina does ?ot wish to be without him. it will loan him to the National Government knowing that his conduct of this high j oglco will be bayond reproach, f. As a result of the enforcement of an ordinance recently passed by the Town Commissioners regulating the parking of automobiles in the busi ness district, it has been made possi ble to pass through the streets in the business part of town with a great deal more ease and a great deal less congestion. The parking question U a big one and the Commissioners have evidently begun in the right direction I Contrary to the expressed opinion of | some that the Commissioners are try- i Ing to drive people away from town I by not allowing them space to park their cars, the Commissioners are ex. j ertlng an honest effort to keep the streets open so that people can get in to town. And in this effort they should have the hearty co-operation jof everybody of both the town and wuntry. Income Tax In Nutshell. ' Slump Not Due to Association j Selling. Raleigh. Feb. 20. ? Reports from New York that ijtio receut slump in cotton prices was due in part to the heavy selling by the North I aroIIBft Cotton Growers Association, are declared to be without basis in fact by U. B. Bla lock, general manager 6f the associa^ lion. Mr. Blalock says the association is | adhering to its policy of orderlysales and that it is under no necessity of dumping cotton on in? market and has not done so. He indicated lost night that no sales are now being made, as he said the association is well ahead of Its announced schedule of monthly sales. Two advances have already been) made to members of the association, he explained, and enough cotton has already been sold to permit another adance to be made in the spring and preparations are now under way fot getting that out at the proper time.
