Atlanta, Ga., May 1. ? Towns and rural communities, stricken by an epl. iemic of tornadoes that dipped ruth essly through Beven Southern states yesterday, were recovering slowly to light. Relief workers from organized services and volunteers, had their tasks wellunder way in the sorces of tillages levelled. Death Toll 111. Reports gathered placed the total death list at 111. There still was no definite estimate of the persons in. jured, but belief persisted that the number would reach 500. Property damage will be much greater than at first anticipated, it wan indicated to day. The only estimate attempted ? that of $10,000,000 ? probably will be eclisped in the final check up. South Carolina was worst stricken of the seven states visited by the tor nadoes. Red Cross workers and others were at Anderson and at Horrell Hill settlement. State troops were on guard Property damage at AndersoA alone was $750,000. List of Dead. Latest tabulations disclosed the fol lowing deaths: South Carolina, 81; Georgia, 13; Alabama, 11; North Carolina. 4; Lou isiana, 1; Arkansas, 1. Two additional deaths w?re report ed from Columbia, where two Injured persons died in hospitals, and at Rober sonville, N. C., where belated reports told of a twister striking there. The Commission will receive appli cations for positions of business exe cutive until May 20. The salaries range from $3,000 to $5,000 a year The business executive at a hos pital will servel under the general direction of the medical officer in charge, and will relieve him of all details of business management. Applicants will be rated on their training, experience and fitness, weighted at 80 per cent, and a discus, sion and plan of organization, weight ed at 20 per cent.
