Mr. Gardner is rice-president and a director of the American Nation, al Br nk of Danville, also rice-presi dent and director of the Agricultural Credit Corporation of Virginia. He was one of the first mt_ in Pittsylvania county to sign the marketing con. tract and was one of the very tew prominent men in the city of Danville to back the cooperative marketing movement from Its beginning. Accord ing to Mr. McCormick the retiring <J1. rector, his successor will havo the loyal support of the six thousand mem bers of the association in Pittsylvania county who he states are better orga nised today than ever before. Unanimous elections by the asso ciated growers marked the return, of a number of the tobacco association's directors to office and the change of only three directors in three states is regarded as a remarkable endorse ment of the marketing association The payment of a hair a million dol lars by the associatlin to its members of the dark-fired and sun-cured areas of Virginia last week brought satis - facton ,to the farmers who gathered in crowds at twenty markets an rtmc in time to assist them in the prepara tion of another crop. Last Thursday's payment to the dark . fire<l planters brought their total advances on the 1S22 crop up to ninety percent of the bankers valuation. The sun-cured grows whose 1923 crop has sold faster have now received seventy-five per cent of its valuation by the bankers. Checks are now being made out for association members in Eastern North Carolina who delivered tobacco of the 1S23 crop. Asecond payment of more than amillion dollars on last sea son's deliveries will be made from the association warehouses in East em Carolina not later than June 15.
