fWaJFITN BOABD American Legion J am be s Post 105 " A NOBLE DEED BY NOBLE WOMEN From the beginning of time, ran lias been the aggresajr, the oppressor, and tbe' slayer of his fellow man In battle; woman has been the well of . humanity, sympathy, and tenderness. ~ Tba man wounds, the woman hoals. Man represents God's first experiment In the creation of huir.itn beings, but the woman is His masterpiece. On every hand, we have today examples of bcth sexes who have only yester day, emerged from the blodiost con flict that the world has ever known. ? and these sexes are running true to tradition. We, the Ex-Service men, have served our Nation In the World War, and now we are beginning to forget ?.the hardships and horrors of battles, 'jthat is, the fortunate ones of us, who demerged unwounded, and physically 4flt to carry on the fi;ht for the sur vival of the fittest. There are many j .1 , of our comrmdea. who cannt t tight, | they are the human wrecks of the storms of war. The American Lesion has not forgotten our "buddies" who lie wounded In our hospitals, but In our fight to survive, we are forced to neglect them more or less. Thanks to our women, our wounded comrades are not neglected. It Is with a feeling of pride and gratitude, that we tell the world, of our Auxiliary and for the noble $ct that they have recently performed. Oteen, Is one of our Government hospitals, locatcd at Oteen. X. C., and houses a great number of our comratos that are suffering with tuberculosis. Now of all places in the world that Is dreary and monotonous, it is a Government Hospital, under military discipline and administration. The sameness of the food, the environments, the furnishings, and the "cure." is enough in itself to make the T. B. patient despondent to the point of surrender. There are certain wards and sun parlors that are reserved for the Incurables,? our comrades who will soon go West. These sun parlors were provided with the necessities of the "cure" by our Government, but they were drab, dreary, unattractive, and ^altogether a miserable place for the mortally wounded men and women. | to bask tar ttie ronTtJBfNrf tlrtl# f?w days left on earth. Our women saw the necessity of a homelike enrlro ment (or them. They determined to furnish the sun parlors wtth'hcaney furnishings, and to mi^ the down trail more beautiful and comfortable, for those who must travel It. Five thousand dollars was needed Cor this woik. and the American Legion Aux iliary gladly volunteered to raise this fund. Did thev? Ask the men at Oteen, hut let-us tell you. they certainly DID. Now. for the surprise. Of this five thousand dollars which was to be raised throughout North Carolina the Jarabes Post Auxiliary gave one hun dred dollars. Npturally, we Jambes men are proud ot our women. We have never studied voice, but we "can sing "Praises to our Post Auxiliary," when we consider the fact that North Caro lina is quite a large town and that one hundred dollars out of five thou sand is a Babe Ruth Batting Average. We thank the citiiens of our com munity. who gave so generously to this fund, we thank every individual who bought a poppy on Memorial Day (by the way. thats where your money went, in case you are not aware of It. the best spent dime you ever Invested.) and we thank our Auxiliary for the privlledeg and pleasure of sub scribing to thla fund^Slraelven. It goes to prove that the man wounds and the woman heals, the man la prone to neglect his fellow man In distress, hut the woman never neglects. and it absolutely Is proof of the tact that the woman Is God's Masterpiece. ?
