THE OLD VILLAGE DOCTOR
How dear to my heart are the mem
ories of childhood.
The whooping cough, measles, and
chicken pox too.
The thorns thai stuck la my feet ir
the wlldwood.
The blisters I rubbed on my heeli
with my shoe,
The wide-spreading brook that I trie*
to catch llsh in.
And caught but a cold as in it fell.
The Doctor Pa sent for to ease mj
condition,
The dear Tillage Doctor we all lovet
so welL
The kind patient Doctor, the hope
giring Doctor,
The pain easing Doctor we all lore*
to wall.
The good Tillage Doctor I prise as i
treasure,
Per whom Is so willing to come whet
you callT
Regardless of self and his own east
and pleasure.
Through storms and through dark
ness he reaches them all.
How often he came when in anguish
I tumbled,
Green apples?they did It I loved them
so well.
He came and he smiled as o're me he
fumbled.
And to him my story of pain I would
tell.
To this good faithful Doctor, this life
saving Doctor,
This beet of all Doctors we all loved
so well.
How soon from his grip did he pull
out the bottle
Of OA8TOR OIL pure and as sticky
as glue.
And Ah! how I groaned as down my
poor throttle
He poured the one drug that my in
fancy knew.
Though now far removed from the
days of green apples,
The tears of regret will Instinctively
swell
As 1 think with remorse of the times
that I grappled ?
With that old village Doctor we all
loved so well,
The unselfish, devoted and trustwor
thy Doctor,
The old. Tillage Doctor we all loved
so well.
