I am &la Brother Dowd brought into our re j vival the spirit of lha"k^'VlUpgsai^ of praising God. Read the Psalm and you will find there one of the fin-, ? ?st expreseions of prayer - ? , want to know anywhere. His will through you to be lived out ?d The big trouble with us today is we will not give Him a chance. Go to% man and ask him to help you out Z *?M :rL?'dA kingdom when we iook ?i we'expect**0?mak **he kingdom of S'WM wu rtftffi and all because there is tackof prw er in life. You may not have prayed % tQ,8 time, but there is coming a time when you will offer a ' s?T:rG^T:T:Tjp folks that prayed back^ yonder when ?rUd 'bSSS. There are people in 5tis world who get upset and anything to upset or frighten will send them to God whether there be any a'ueertty ( or not. Much of the prayiugofchrls ?an folks I am afraid Is l?Un?*^ that that took place In the lives of two Irishmen who were coming to America. They were on the way over here and while coming across the seas a big storm came up. They had heard that you could talk to God some way. somewhere, and he would hear They thought Jt was time to pray. Pat sa d to Mike; "You lead us in irayer. Hike said "No Pat you lead us In praver Back and forth about three times it went Finally one of them said. "Well. 1 will try It. and started o?t Lord, this is the first time In all our lives we have ever called on you. We have never before asked you to help us. We are In an awful fix. we are about to be destroyed. We have not been coming to you with our burdens, but we come in this terrible time, and Lord If you will help us out of this circumstance we will never bother you again so long Jis we live. A certain type of professed christians are about like that. They wait un til some trying experience gets on them, they then cry to God. ? A man came to me once and said: "It looks like I am coins to lose my boy. He has typhoid (ever and It ?eems as though he will die In spite of hll the doctors can do. I want you to pray for him to get well. I have not been coming to church like I ought to. I have not been praying to God like I should and I have not led the christian life that 1 ought to, hut If my boy will get well I will pledge "that I will lire a different lite. I will come to church and live right ?nd pray to God." I said to him: "1 Ah all pray for him and may Qod bring him back and save him for you." The Lord did It. He saved that young snan. Do you think that man became at devoted church member. Upon my word as a christian man and as a tor of the church, that fellow has ome to church one single time that boy came to life. He made All sorts of promises to me. and to the Lord when he was In trouble. He was penitent then In a great state of alarm. Lord teaeh us to pray as taught his disciples. We need get definitely In line with Jesus and let him teach us to lead the christian life. It is the sweetest In the world to live side by with Jetua. If you have not I tor you. Lord teach us to as John taught his disciples, "that while Mr. Chapman at a meeUng that the before the audlenCe her to slag for Uttle mouth that the con to taars by the so much of her ability that her dad thought ho would five her as much opportuni ty to develop into a wonderful singer as he could. He took her to Chicago. He wanted her to meet that wonder ful singer, Pattie, and he wanted her to sing for her. Pattie put the little girl over In one corner of the house, then said to her: "Open your mouth and sing." Pattie waa so struck with the music of that chllds voice that she hugged her up In her arms and told her how much she thought of her wonderful little voice. Pattie then Btood up and sang for that little child the Last Rose of Summer and Home Sweet Home, songs for which she had been getting thousands of dollars an pvening tt sing before audiences. What a royal opportunity that little ?lrl had. Yet this is Insignificant ivhen we think of the beauty, the pri vilege of letting Jesus Christ teach us how to pray, how to lead 'the chris ttan life. It is our privilege tonight to take these lives and lift them out of the ordinary, out of the commonplace, raise them to sublime heights in Christ Jesus our Lord. He is waiting to see what He can do with that harp of life you have . You have, not been giving him the chance. He wants it. Many a father and mother is agonis ing today for a boy or girl they would like to turn from the path of evil. They are calling upon teachers, upon preachers, upon sources everywhere for help. Yet they have not been helping back there in the home. There was a widowed mothrt- with only one son for her support, her comfort. She had prevailed upon him to give his life to God; she had plead with him to turn aside from his evil living, to know God and to live for Him, but the son itt only annoyed by her pleading*. He ftanlly told her that It ever again she mentioned thla thing to him he would leave home he would go away and leave her, tor he could no longer stand her plead ings. The thought ot religion was becoming unbearable to him. But the mother, so aniious over her son's soul, once again asked him to give his hearj and lite to God. And to this the son replied: "Mother I said it ever again you mentioned that to m* I would leave. I am as good as my word. I am going. Get my clothes together and pack them tor I am going." She got his things. She put them ln e nice little grip. He went ohCaf the door, down the steps, across the lawn and out ot the gate. And as he went the mother said, "Son remember that every evening at six I will be in the closet praying tor you." He left with those words In his ears. He went down to the shore, paid his fare and was sailing across the seas. A great storm came on the sea and this man was brought to his senses. The captain notified his pas sengers that danger was ahead. It seemed that the ship would be torn to pieces in this awful storm. The boy looked at his watch and then said to the captain: "Captain can this ship last five more minutes?" The captain replied: "Yes, it can last five minutes, but may I ask why you ask that?": "Because it it can last five .more min utes it will reach port safely. There is a good mother praying for me. I am not going to be lost." They made it. He came back home, he went right in through the grove, through the gate, into the house. It was the time of evening when his mother pray- , ed. He opened the doors of the prayer j closet and there he found her on her fences, "Please save my ^tendering boy and bring him back to me." Despair not chrlatian fathers and mothers. Hold on to God's unchang ing hand and one day a wayward son or daughter will think of that life you lived and mother's God and lath er's Gnd will come to be their Savior too. Hold on to God's unchanging hand. Lord teach us to pray.
