MAIN STREET LOUIES URO, N. 0. * OUR OUTSTANDING NEED AS I SEE IT You may not agree with me In what I ahall aay, for a\ a man thlnketh In bts heart ao he la. We have studied for a month the church's responsibility for amuse, ?rents and recreation. These are al right If properly carried on. I confess | my Inability to know how It should be done. We think and plan for our| young people mentally and socially, this we should do but what are we doing for them spiritually? Jesus lov- , ed the great out doors but we base not been able to find where any of His time was spent In fun and frolic. Some tell us that Jesus took a part In social activities by attending the marriage feast, etc. To my mind He had?a two fold purpose In attending this feast. First to set an example that Christ should be invited to eveiy marriage altar and consecrate and santlfy it as holy and sacred. His presence exalted the occasion. Second, He had a mission to fill a work to per form. In turning the water to wine He demonstrated the power of God Invested in His son. The task of re deeming a lost world was so great that the Master spent his time In pre paration and service. Prayer was not merely one of the outstanding phases of our Lords spiritual 111?. It atands by itself and was the manifestation of his personal and essential relation ship to God the father. During His earthly ministry Ho was accustom to speak to the Father as to one of His disciples. In Luke S:21-22 we read Jusus also having been baptised and praying, the heaven was opened and the Holy Ghost descended upon H'm and a voice came from heaven say ing "Thou art my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased." Thus His earthly ministry was be gun in prayer. He tpent nights in prayer, 1 long belore day and at the sunset hour we find him praying In the wilderness teaching us G?e need ot secret prayer. He prayed before eating, teaching the duty of giving wanks. He prayed on the mountain top teaching that all work designed for God's glory should begin with piayer. He took P??si, James and John upon Mount Tabor teaching the need of united prayer. He prayed all night before choosing the twelve. They fasted and prayed ten days before toey were given power to help others. All the great events of his life were preceeded by prayer. His disciples counted Wis prayer life and coming into cctamunlon with Him, by His spirit li Jesus name, brings the God cieated prayer and this prayer iii an swered./ We do not read where Christ taught shem how to preach or teach. He taught them to pray. Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest that He send forth laborers into his har vest. The only thing for which he asked his disciples to pray. Not a word about money or organizations but only prayer to God, and He will send forth the laborers. This brings me to my subject, our outstanding neea as a church or individuals is Player. We have failed to pray. The family altars have passed away. The old time prayer meetings have passed away, a testimonial service, is a thing of th past. C. E. has no place for prayer, and in fact all our servlces need more time given to prayer. A visitor from another church was present in both services last Sunday. He sfterwards asked if the Christian church believed tr nraver What an indictment to the great exainple Christ so faithfully i gave us. We are entering upon the | threshold of anoher revival season but will there be a revival? The Preacher cannot bring a revival alone but unit ed prayer will bring a revival it * were as interested In our church, our community and ourselves fromi a sp r ltual sandpolnt as we are In mat?rUl and social activlies, we would long ago been spending hours foi "real revival. Yes the church the commun ity and you and I need to catch a new vision of our duty. How are we ?ne?s uring up to the christian standard of giving our best in soul winning. \Ve ueed a great awakening. Jesus said, "and if I be lifted up 1 will draw all men unto me." We are failing to lift up Christ as we should for he has a magnetic power that draws on and on. If our young people could see the love and beauty of Christ ex?"P " fled in our lives they would he content ed to follow Him. We need to pray a* heart 0 God. and repew a right spirit within me. Restore unto me the power of thy salvation and uphold me wttnj thy free spirit, then I willteach transgressors thy ways and sinners shall be converted unto thee when th church prayed the prison chains were Uoken. Peter was freed and the jail er converted. When Peter lifted Christ on the day of Pentecost d. 00 souls were saved. The gospel s not intened to amuse hut to compel. For It is the power of God unto ""I?1'?" fcr all who will believe prayer Is the only connection with God? er house. May we keep that connec tion clear. Jesus begun his ministry with prayer. His last prayer was for his murderers. He la now at the fath era right .hand ever praying for yc" and me. O. that we might pray. Lord, fr reive that we have not all with one accord continued steadfastly In prayer This la our atnas individuals and as members of the body of Christ. Lord cleanse us, and All us witb thy sp that we may teach others the ??)'? Jeaus the son of God. who *" * - out sin needed to spend so much time ii prayer, how much more do we poor weak sinful creatures heed to Pray May we remember that adeeppraT cr life mean, a close walk with God and reveal one that is happy 1?
