But they're all dressed up In gay new costumes this year. One of the Interesting new Ideas that Is being emphasized nowadays is the washable toy. Many moth ers know from experience how difficult It Is to keep Junior's play things or Betty's doll family as clean aa they would like them. And ao they have welcomed the bright suggestion that anlmala and dolla can be made moat attractively of fabric. Oilcloth or chum bray, ginghams and calico are fabrics favored for this purpose. Some of these can be obtained In special finishes so that they can be easily washed. Pattern companies now have patterns so that the mother who likes to make toys for a special purpose can do so readily. But even so, investigation ' has shown that only forty-five per cent of the money saved h> this man ner Ht spent for Christmas gifts and other luxuries and twenty-eight per cent is rcdeposited in saving or check ing accounts. The balance goes for essentials. , If none of the money saved, in Christmas savings clubs were actual ly saved, they would promote the spir it of thrift and teach those who par ticipate what, can be accomplished by persistent saving. Ther Christmas savings clubs will do more than all of the preaching on frugality and thrlftness conceivable. They give a realistic demonstration of what can be done by putting by a fixed sum each week. Once convinced of what regular saving will do, the average person is going to strive to save for whatever objective he may have in life.
