Dollars - and - cents celling prices on used metal coil and flat bedsprings, which in some crowded war centers have been selling higher than original cost, will go into effect Wednes day, the region Office of Price Administration announced today. Limited production of new bed springs and an unusually large demand for used springs, OPA officials said, brought about the necessity for ceilings, which, are established at wholesale and re tail. The new regulation applies] to five types of springs, and re quires retailers to attach a tag. to each spring indicating its max imum price. A sale by 6ne per son to another comes under the regulation, as do sales at auction. The Ave types are listed as link wire fabric, crimp top coil, cable wire and steel band top. single deck coil, and full double deck] coil. Wholesale price ceilings on these range from $1.50 for. the first type,' to $3.00 for thei latter, and retail prices.-are $3.50 j to $6.50 depending on the type. "Reconditioned" bedsprings are] identified as those which meet these requirements: properly I aligned frame, replacement or re pair of missing or damaged parts, secure fastening of all parts, pro per alignment of top surface, and complete repainting of bedspring. Such "reconditioned" spring cannot sell for more than $3.50 - j $6.00 at wholesale, or $7.12 at retail, the highest price in each 'case being for the double deck coil type only. Use of devices for effecting higher prices without actually raising the dollars-and-cents lev els, such as bulk and combina tion sales, commissions and pre miums, is prohibited by the reg ulation.
