This week's action In the coun
ty slow pitch softball league
saw Burlington Mills defeat
Frankllnton Town Monday night,
8-5. The win placed Burling
ton In a first-place tie with
the Frankllnton Teens. Both
have a 4-1 record.
In the second game played
Monday night, the Loulsburg
Teens won over the Loulsburg
Police Department 4-3r
In Tuesday night's action,
Burlington took over first place
In the standings by defeating the
Frankllnton Teens, 10-9. In
the second game, the cellar
dwelling Police Dept. came out
with a bang, scoring 21 runs
on 2" hits.
Kyle Prince led the way with
4 for 4 and 4 runs; Leonard
and Rock King each did the
same, 4 for 4 with 4 runs. Two
of King's hits were home runs.
J. Byrd had 4 for 4 with 3
runs and Charlie Lambert had
3 for 3 with 3 runs. William
Dement did not strike out, but
got 2 hits.
In the third game, Frankllnton
Town downed the Loulsburg
Teens 9-6. Mendeghall and
Satterwhlte led th'eTown team.
Daredevils
Two dairies were engaged In
an advertising war In a West
ern city. One of the companies
engaged a daredevil racer to
drive a car around the town with
large placards, reading:
11 This Daredevil Drinks Our
Milk."
The rival company came out
with placards, twice as large,
reading:
"You don't have to be a dare
devil to drink our milk."

A dear old lady was passing
a rural stream where a com
pany of nude soldiers wais en
Joying a refreshing cool swim.
"Oh, dear!" she exclaimed.
"There must be our shock
troops."
People who work in garages
are getting rich on money found
under car seats.
Old Swimming Hole Goes Modern
Gone are the days when the youngsters
cooled off in the old m uddy swimming hole.
Now, it's strictly first class, all the way.

Franklinton
Recreation Program To Start
(Frk. B. W.) Frankllnton's
summer recreation program
will run for eight weeks be
ginning the 15th of June.
Swimming lessons will be
given at the pool during the
morning hours. During the
afternoon from 3:30- io 5:00
the old gym will be opened for
those who wish to play ping
pong, checkers, basketball and
other games.
On Tuesday and Thursday ev
enings there Is a town softball
league already In operation.
There will also be a little
league program and a summer
basketball program. The town
also maintains two tennis courts
which are lighted and may be
used until ten o'clock at night.

program are Mrs. Peggy Mc
jGhee and Billy Pearce. Re
creation leaders are Mr. Harry

Tourney Host Today
The Par Chasers of Green
Hill Country Club are playing
host today to the Virginia
Carolina Ladles Golf League
In a Golf Tournament being
played here.
Clubs participating In the
Tournament are: Warrenton,
Henderson, Oxford, Wake
Forest, Roxboro, Halifax, Va.
and Loulsburg. The purpose of
the league Is to stimulate In
terest among the women for the
game of golf.
The group, expected to number
around seventy, teed off around
8:30 Thursday morning for their
18 hole play. Officers of the

man, Vice President, both of
Wake Forest; and RhodaCurrln,

Programs
Announced
LOUISBURG
The Loulsburg Recreation Co
mlsslon announced today that
plans have been completed to
offer swimming Instruction
again this summer In connec
tion with the recreation pro
gram.
Registration for the two weeks
of Instruction will be held on
Friday, June 12, from 3 to 5
p.m. at the Loulsburg High
School Auditorium, along with
the general registration, and
all those interested in receiv
ing swimming Instruction are
asked to register at that time
in order that the classes might
be set up.
The period for the swimming
Instruction will be Monday
through Friday the weeks of
July 6 through July 17. In
structors will be Miss Betty
Hobgood and Lee Allen, and
the classes will be held at Green
Hill Country Club pool.
