Advises Strawberry Planting Now Mrs. Jewel Fl$her, the Home Food Supply leader for Cedar Rock Home Demonstration Club, at the November 24th meeting reported that now, or until next March Is a good time to set out strawberry plants. She recommended that certl fled, disease-free plants be used and that a variety be selected that would be mar ketable. She added that there was a possibility that there might tie a shortage of com mercial berries next year and that extra strawberries could well be a source of extra In come ap well as Increasing the home food supply. Mrs. Blllle Stalllngs, recrea tlon leader, named comjnlttees and reported on plans for the December recreation meeting, which will be in the recreation room at the church on Saturday night, December 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Frances Fuller, Home Economics agent, gave a dem onstration -on "Buying Canned Goods." She pointed out that they are economical and con venient to get and use, available in a variety of kinds and forms, nutritious and attractive. She demonstrated how, by reading labels and buying to suit the family's needs, one can save much on the grocery bill. She also staled that almost anything people want to eat today can be bought in cans. During the recreation period the hostess, Mrs. Leslie Pearce, served a congealed salad, mixed crackers and cof fee; Mrs. P. E. Dean gave mem bers an opportunity to taste pumpkin preserves mady by two recipes, one using pineapple with the pumpkin and one using lemon. This was a new dish for all of the members. Pope's Home Demonstration Club met Fri day afternoon at the home of Mrs. L. A. Thompson, Sr., In Frankllnton. Devotlonals were given by Mrs. Thompson. The demonstration, "Buying Canned Foods/' was given by Mrs. Frances Fuller. She pointed out the advantages of canned foods such as conven ience, nutrition, economy, wide choice of variety and other advantages. The hostess 'served Russian tea and fruit cake topped with whipped cream. Mrs. Mitchiner HD Hostess The Loulsburg Home Demon stration Club met on Friday night with Mrs. James Mitchi ner at her home on the Frank llnton Road with Mrs. Vernon Stone as co-hostess, with 14 members present. President, Mrs. J. P. Tim berlake, Jr., presided and call ed the meeting to order. The group sang "Count Your Many Blessings" led by Mrs. Russell Nelms. The devotional was given by Miss BessieShadrach. Mrs. George Fuller gave a program on "Buying Canned Foods." Mrs. Pattie Justice gave a leader's report on plant ing shrubs and trees. The minutes were read "for approval and the treasurer's report given by Mrs. Florence Wells. The meeting adjourned with the club collect.
