C., has been selected for technical training at Cha nute AFB, 111., as a U. S. Air Force aircraft maintenance specialist. The airman recently com pleted basic training at Lack land AFB, Tex. His new school Is part of the Air Training Command which conducts hun dreds of specialized courses to provide technically trained personnel for the nation's aerospace force. Airman Tant was graduated from Frankllnton High School In 1965; FORT POLK, LA. (AHTNC) Army Pvt. Percy L. Anderson Jr., whose parents live on Route Z, Box 173, Franklln ton, N. C., completed advanced Infantry training, Including a week of guerrilla warfare training at Fort Polk, La., July 30. He Is a 1964 graduate of B. F. Funeral services (or Alvln Artie* Marshall Jr., 21, of Rt. 1, Castalla, were con ducted Friday at 3 p.m. at Lancaster Funeral Home chapel by Rev. James Estep. Burial was held In Red Bud Baptist Church cemetery. He died Wednesday. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Artlce Marshall of Rt. 1, Castalla; two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Colbert ofCastalla and Mrs. Sandra Leonard of Durham; and one brother, Everette Marshall of Raleigh. MRS. ELMARIE L. FINCH * FRANKLINTON - Mrs. El marle Llndsey Finch, 30, of Frankllnton, died Thursday at her home. She was a native of Franklin County. Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Buck Llndsey of the home; four brothers, Danny Joe, Steve Michael, Cary Martin and Barron Gerald Llndsey, all of Frankllnton; three sisters, Mrs.; Warren G. Spencer of Churchill, Md., Mrs. J6hn .William Ray and Mrs. Tommy Gupton, both of Frankllnton; her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Cassle White of Wake Forest. Funeral services were con ducted Saturday at 3 p.m. at CMc Grove Baptist Church near Youngsvllle by the Rev. Ed Sessoms, pastor, and the Rev. Glen Short. Burial was In the church cemetery. MRS. Funeral services were held Friday at 3 p.m. at the Cas NOTICE Pursuant to Interim Order of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina, entered on 27 July 1966, a new Freedom of Choice period beginning 1 August 1966 and ending 16 August 1966 is being afforded to all Negro children attending or eligible to attend the public schools operated by The Franklin County Board of Education for the 1966-67 school year, lhe Franklin County Board of Edu cation has mailed to the parent, or person acting as a parent, of each Negro child attending or eligible to attend any school in the Franklin County Public School system, a Freedom of Choice application and as sociated papers. , Choice forms may also be obtained at the office of the Superintendent of hranklin County Schools in l.ottisburg, N. C. The completed choice form must be mailed or delivered to the Superintendent s Office, franklin County Board of Education, Bickctt Boulevard, l.ouisburg, North Carolina, no? later than 16 August 1966. The text of the aforesaid "Interim Order" is published below. This 1st day of August, 1966. THE FRANKLIN COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION fc- f INTERIM ORDER ENTERED BY HONORABLE ALGERNON L. BUTLER, CHIEF JUDGE OF THE UNITED STATES DIS TRICT COURT FOR THE EASTERN DISTRICT OF NORTH CAROLINA It is ORDERED as follows: ) (1) That the defendants. th#ir employees, agents, successors, and all persons in active concert or participation with them shall not engage in any act, practice, or policy of racial discrimination in the op-, eratioftof the public school system of Franklin County. (2) \ new freedom of choice period beginning August 1, 1966 and ending August 16, 1966 shall be af forded all Negro children attending, or eligible to attend, the public schools operated by the defendants for the 19(W> - 67 school year. Except as herein expressly provided, the choice period shall be conducted in accordance with the Revised Guidelines promulgated by the Department of Health, Education and Wel fare in, March 1966. (3) The defendants shall, no later than July 30, 1966, mail to the parent, dr person acting as a parent, of each Negro child attending or eligible to attend any school in the Franklin County public school sys tem, a freedom of choice application and associated papers in the form attached hereto, together with a copy of the portion of this document entitled "Interim Order", Tb<? defendants shall further cause to be published in each edition of the Franklin Times during the choice 'period the terms of the new choice period and the text of the portion of this order entitled "Interim Order . ^ (4) Freedom of choice applications made pursuant to this order shall be treated as if they had been made during the spring 1966 choice period. (5) All persons eligible for free choice shall be notified by the defendants that any interference with the exercise of free choice shall be reported to Robert H. Cowen, United States Attorney for the EJastern District of North Carolina. Post Office Building, Raleigh, North Carolina, telephone 828-9031, for prompt submission to the Court. Provision shall be made fdr reasonable notice to all parties in the case of any application by any party for modification in this order. (6) The freedom of choice provided for herein is being conducted under order of this Court. Any person or persons who interfere with any person exercising or seeking to exercise rights hereunder will be dealt with pursuant to federal law. The Court retains full jurisdiction over this action for purposes of modifying this decree in the interest of justice. In the event of interference by any person orpersons with the im plementation of this order, or with the exercise or enjoyment of rights thereunder, the Court shall take such action as it deems appropriate under the circumstances to achieve the orderly and effective elimination of segregation in the Franklin County school system. (7) It is further ORDERED: that the defendants, their employees, agents, successors, and all persons in active concert or participation with them are hereby restrained and enjoined as follows: That race, color or natioMil origin shall not be a factor in the hiring or assignment to Ischools or within schools of teachers and other professional staff. Vacant teacher positions in the future shall be open to all applicants, and each filled by the best qualified applicant regardless of race. The Franklin County School Board shall encourage transfers by present members of the faculty to schools within the system in which pupils are wholly or predominantly of a race other than such teacher's. The Franklin County School Board shall act up and file with the Court on or before August 10, 1966, definite objective standards for the employment, assignment and retention of teaohers and professional staff in a matter not inconsistent with this order and compatible with the requirements of the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses of the Constitution. ? (8) This order shall not be construed to limit in any manner the obligations of the defendants under the provisions of the HEW Form 441B and the HEW Guidelines of March 1966, except to th: extent, if any, that they may be modified by thia order. (9) The defendants shall file a report with the Court on or before September 12, 1966, with copies of said report being served upon counsel far all parties, advising the number of Negro students requesting re assignment to predominantly white schools and the schools to which such students have been assigned. Said report shall also advise of the number of Negro and white teachers and school personnel assigned for the 1966 - 67 school year to schools in which the majority of the students are of another race and of the schools to which such teachers and personnel have been assigned.
