Allen Pastors Liberty > The Rev. John C. Allen, m formerly of Sanford and a na tive of Burlington, Vt. as sumed full-time duties at the Liberty (Vance) United Church of Christ at Epsom the past Sunday. He was graduated from Wor chester Academy In 19S9 and received his A. B. degree from Duke University In 1963 I and his B. D. from Duke Di vinity School In 1966. His major area of study has been In pastoral counseling and In the relationship of theology and preaching. Rev. Allen Is an Eagle Scout and a recipient of the God and Country Award. For re laxation , he enjoys a game of golf. Pastor Allen Is married to the former Shirley M. Helden, previously of Schenectady, New York. Mrs. Allen has a B. S. In nursing and was last employed as a head nurse In psychiatry at Duke Hos pital. They have a one year-old daughter, Katrine Jeane. The family resides In the parson age across from the church. Rev. Allen was pastor at Lee's^Chapel, Turner's Cha pel and Mt. Pleasant before moving to Epsom. An old-fashioned Icecream supper has been held at the church as a welcome to Rev. and Mrs. Allen. Gallons and gallons of homemade Ice cream and cakes and a even ing of fellowship was enjoyed by approximately 7S church members and visitors. REV. JOHN ALLEN. Ill Baptist Circles Meet The Emma C. Allen Circle The Emma C. Allen Circle met Monday night In the home of Mrs. Raymond Wilson. There were five members present. Mrs. Wilson led In the open ing prayer. Miss Esther Andrews, chairman, gave the devotion and read the names of miss ionaries whose names appear ed on the Prayer Calendar. Mrs. J. R. Wilder led In prayer for these mission-' arles. During the business period plans were made to partici pate In Christmas In Augusf. Mrs. WUson presented*, an Interesting program on the origin and teachings ^of Christian Science. She closed the meeting with prayer. At the conclusRM of the meeting, all present enjoyed peach Ice cream and cookies. The Kenmore Circle The Kenmore Circle of the Lou Is burg Baptist Church met Monday night with Mrs. N. D. Medlln. The meeting waa opened by the Call to Prayer given by Mrs. Joe Shearon after which Mrs. John Godfrey led In prayer. Mrs. N. C. Mullen presented the program which was a study of the beliefs of the ChrlstlanSclence religion. Mrs. rfullen also presided over the business portion of the meeting. The members discussed plans for the new church year and community missions projects. Members were asked to participate In "Christmas In August," a program to help the needy. At the close of the business portion, Mrs. Medlln served homemade peach ice cream, pound-TIlte and nuts to ten nWnbers and Mrs. D. W. Peterson, guest for the even ing. The Mary ' Hester Powell Circle The Mary Hester Powell Circle held Its regular monthly meeting August IS In the church parlor, with Bessie Shadrach presiding. Reading of a poem, "Called Prayer," and scripture reading from Michel 6-8 by Mrs. Shadrach opened the meeting. During the business session, envelopes were given out for State Missions, and the Circle discussed the society dues for each month. A very Interesting program was given by Sue Leonard on the Study of Major Cults: Christian Science. The meeting was closed with prayer. Refreshments were served to the five members present.
