a Henderson hospital. Funeral
services will be conducted at
the Liberty Christian Church
at 31 p. m. Friday by the Rev.
John C. Allen, III, and the Rev.
Otis Boyter. Burial will be In
the church cemetery. Surviv
ing are two daughters, Mrs.
Elsie Ayscue of Rt. 3, Louls
burg and Mrs. Richard Renn
of Rt. 1, Henderson; one son,
Floyd Hlght of Loulsburg; one
brother, Joseph B. Cooper,
Sr., of Rt. 1, Loulsbutg; seven
grandchildren; and nine great
grandchildren.

sionary from Brazil. Having
served as the superintendent
o t an orphanage for 4 years in
Brazil and also as a part-time
pastor, Mr. Meglll related
some o i his experiences.
The guest speaker showed
some colored slides and also
taught the audience a song In
Portucuese.
In closing Mr. Me (111 refer
red to the War on Poverty
but emphasized that the worst
kind at porerty was spiritual
poverty.
During the social hour, Mrs.
B. A. Harris, Jr. and- Mrs.
Phil Franklin Whitfield served

This past week has been one
of various activities. Thurs
day and Friday nights the
Loulsburg High School "Bull
dogs" had their first ball
games and did quite well In
them. Their next ballgame Is
Friday, DecembeV 9 at Epsom.
Friday afternoon the town of
Loulsburg had Its annual
Christmas parade. It was
filled with favorite Christmas
tunes, horses, pretty girls,
fancy cars, and last but not
least Jolly Santa Claus. This
started the Christmas season
off Just right!
Saturday, many teens from
around the country had a try
at the S. A. T. Many went to
Enloe and Broughton In Ral
eigh. Some wenttoWake For
est. In any case, good luck to
you all upon receiving your
scores.

Tucker Meyer of Loulsburg
High School has been cited as
one of the outstanding students
of high school English In the
country. The National Council
of Teachers of English has
named her a 1966 national
runner-up In Its annual Ach
ievement Awards competition.
Last spring Miss Meyer sub
mitted original papers to, and
underwent several hours of ri
gid analytical tests prepared
by, NOTE for the Achievement
Awards competition. From
high schools In the 50 states,
the District of Columbia, and
American Preparatory
Schools abroad, 800 finalists
were chosen.
Finalists receive scrolls of
recognition, and their names
are sent to every college and
university in the nation, as
being recommended for 1967
scholarships.
The National Council of
Teachers of English honors
not only Tucker, but also the
English department of Louis
burg High School.
Dr. Robert J. Lacampagne,
