Ferrum Tops Louisburg For Conference Crown Stinson Drives Loulsburg's Chris Stlnson drives In for a shot, guarded by Ferrum's John Penn, In Tuesday night's championship game played at Loulsburg College. Ferrum won, 65-59. Both teams will Play In the District 10 playoffs at Lenoir, N. C. March 3-4. The Loulsburg College Hur ricanes spotted the Ferrum Panthers a 20-4 lead In the early minutes of Tuesday night's championship game and never managed to come all the way back, although they made a gallant try before fall ing, 65-59. Drawing an unusually cold hand In the first ten minutes of play, the Hurricanes could not master a most effective defense thrown at them by the first-ranked Ferrum Panth ers. The Hurricanes staged a late first half rally and roared back to a 28-24 halftlme margin to the rousing cheers of a gym ftlled partisan crowd. But, the second half started as did the first and the Canes fell back in the opening minutes of play. With 5:45 time left, Louls burg pulled to a 50-47 mark but could never get closer than the three points. At 1:02 Chris Stlnson again put the Canes within striking dls tance when his basket brought the score to 61-55. This was Loulsburg's final threat as Ferrum held the slx-polnt lead to finish with the 65-59 win. Jerry Venable led the Panth ers with 18 points and Joe Pen land topped the Hurricanes with 18. Both teams will compete In the District 10 playoffs to be played In Lenoir, N. C. March 3-4. From the floor, Ferrum hit on 57 per cent of his shots while Loulsburg connected on only 37 per cent.
