Louisburg Girls Win Led by Ginger Kimball, a freshman, the Louisburg girls won their second game of the season last week as they downed Gold Sand, 29-18. Kimball scored 14 points for the winners. 'Canes Down Chowan, Meet Ferrum Tonight l.ouisburg built up a fif teen point halftime lead and then weathered a strong sec ond half comeback by Cho wan's Braves to claim their fifth consecutive Cavalier-Tar heel Conference win. Playing almost flawlessly, both on of fense and defense, the 'Canes slowed down the high scpring Chowan five to a totar of 31 first half points while build ing their total to 46. The Braves roared back in the second half and poured in 60 points but their final tallie of 91 was still four short of the 'Canes total of 95. Louisburg built up a ten point lead at 21-11 with 8''j minutes gone in the first half. The lead stayed at 8 and 10 points until, the final minute of the half when the 'Canes scored the final six points to leave on the top side of a 46-31 score. Terry Davis and _^>arry Past-hall shared the brunt of the 'Canes first half scoring with 14 points each. During the first seven minutes of the second half the Hurricanes maintained their halftime lead but with 13:25 remaining the Braves reeled off eight straight ^points to leave the 'Canes with a 61 56* lead at the 11:28 mark. With 7:11 re maining Harry Gray con nected for a field goal that cut the Canes margin to one point at 72-71. At 6:02 the score was 76-75 Louisburg. At this point George Bow den came off the bench to spark a 'Cane rally that sent them out front by 86-77 with 3:44 remaining. Bowden, out of action for almost two weeks with a sprained ankle suffered in the Brevard game January 1,1, hit on three field goals and a foul shot in the space of one and one half minutes. Davis added a foul shot and a Held goal as the score mounted to what seemed to be a safe nine point lead at this point in the game but the Braves were not through as six straight points made the score 86-83 with 2:53 remaining. A field goal by Bob Walker and a foul shot by Sandy Frazier sand wiched between two Chowan field goal made the score 89-87, Louisburg, with 1:25 remaining. Davis was fouled with 1:02- remaining and made good on a one and one but a Chowan field goal cut it to two again with 42 seconds remaining. Paschall sank two foul shots with 33 seconds remaining and John Lewis banged home a driving lay-up before two Chowan foul shots with 4. seconds to go made the final score 95-91.
