Franklinton In District Tonight The Franklinton Rams, Franklin County co-champions and the "B" team, will play Vance County tonight in the opening round of the District III Playoffs at Rocky Mount. The tournament site has been changed from past years. It will be played at N. C. Wesleyan College on US-301 North of Rocky Mount. Wakelon, Franklin County League "C" Team, will play Warrenton, the Warren-Halifax "C" Team. Franklinton plays at 8:30 p.m. Wakelon plays at 7 p.m. Franklinton beat Vance twice in regular season play. Youngsville, Franklin's "A" Team and winner of the recent county tournament gets a bye in first round play but will meet the Wakelon-Warrenton winner next Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals. The winner of the Franklinton- Vance game will meet the winner of the Weldon-Saratoga game next Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. The result of the latter contest, played last night, has not been learned. Dog Show Saturday A group of enterprising youngsters, describing them selves as "some seventh grade boys", are to stage a Dog Show here Saturday. Young Gupton said all dogs must have a leash and that judging would be done based on "form, behavior and tricks if the dog does any --but this is not required." He also said a small entry fee will be charged and also a small ad mission fee will be charged. The Show begins at 2 P.M., according to the young ster and all dogs are eligible. The Franklinton sharp shooters invaded the Paul Elam gym Tuesday and Wed nesday and blasted first Youngsville and then Louis burg to take the first Jayvee Tournament title. Louisburg finished second, Youngsville third and Bunn fourth in the four-team event. Franklintoiw- took the c h a m pionship game from Louisburg Wednesday night, 77-33, behind a brilliant 41 -point effort by Henry Day. The champs bombarded Louisburg with a display of accurate shooting not seen in recent years. In the semi-finals Tuesday night. Franklinton defeated Youngsville 68-37. Jerry Sim mons led the JV champs with 16 points and David Thomp son hit for 14. Day had only 10. Dwight Block led Youngs ville with 16 and Henry Rich ardson had 12. Louisburg downed Bunn in an overtime contest, 72-71 in the semi-finals with Floyd Perry leading the scoring with 24 points. Other Louisburg scoring leaders included Ed die Strickland with 18 and Eddie Edgerton with 15. Artus Crudup and Truby Oakley ppaced Bunn with 16, John Wheless had 13, William Crudup, 12, and Howard Mitchell hit for 11. John Wheless' 24 points were not enough against Youngsville in the consola tion game as the Bunn boys fell, 68-63 after a nip and tuck contest which was tied time and time again through out. Brock again led Youngs ville with 28 points and Rich ardson hit for 19. William Crudup hit 15 for Bunn. In the championship game, Day's 41 points overshadow ed all other scorers but Mike Nicholson had 8, Calvin Wil liamson had 7 and Simmons and Barry Jones each had six for Franklinton. Floyd Perry again led Louisburg, but could muster only eight points against a quicker Franklinton five. Ed die Strickland had six points, Larry Fuller hit five and Jerry Riggan and Frankie Ayscue each had four points. Louisburg spotted Frank linton a 14 point lead and failed to score until the 1:23 mark in the first period. The first point came on a foul shot by Larry Fuller and Jer ry Riggan made the first Louisburg field goal with 36 seconds left in the first frame. At the end of the first quar ter, Franklinton held a 14-5 lead. At halftime, the lead had grown to 34-11 and the walk-a-way was evident by Canes Go For Title Tonight Mt. Louisburg moves into the championship game tonight at 8 p.m. in the College of the Albemarle gym at Elizabeth City against an old and ten acious foe. Ferrum. The two contenders exchanged regular season wins. Louisburg. how ever. won the conference crown for the first time in several years. Davis led the 'Canes with 17 rebounds as Louisburg controlled the boards outre bounding Mt. Olive 48-30. Shooting percentages were as clo?e as the score. The 'Canes had 45 percent from the floor and ML Olive had 46 percent. On the foul line the 'Canes hit for 75 percent accuracy while Mt. Olive hit for 70 percent. Davis hit eight of 15 from the floor and Paschll, who led the scoring for Louibutg with 21 points, hit nine of 16 from the floor. Paschall and Bob Walker kept tthe 'Canes in the game in the first half with their outside shooting. Walker hit 5 of 7 from 20 feet or farther. Louisburg was 11 points be hind at the 7:43 mark in the first half and Paschall's Held goad with 7 seconds left in the half, put the 'Canes ahead 36-35 at halftime. In the second game last night. Ferrum took Chowan, 103 to 96 on Sam Oglesby's 2 8 point effort. William Brown led Chowan and every body else as he burned the nets for 40 points.
