Reliable reports say the move was due to prior committments o( the N. C. Wesleyan College gym on Thursday night. Youngsville-South Granville plays at 7 P.M. tonight. The Vance County-Princeton game follows. The championship game is slated for 7:30 P.M. Wednesday night. Youngsville defeated the Vikings twice in regular season games. On December 30, the Phantoms took a 60-40 decision and on February 4, Youngsville won, 58-48. Princeton is the three-overtime upset winner over highly favored Meadow. Tonight's winners will both go to the state tournament regardless of the outcome of the championship tilt Wednesday night. The Louisburg College Hurricanes didn't quite make the top spot in he Region Ten Tourney, but they were a credit to ! themselves and to their school. From the scoring reports, they obviously ran into a much better ball club. Gardner-Webb also had a decided height advantage and this is almost impossible to overcome in basketball. Wait 'til next year. Larry Paschall was named to the All Region second team. Only three Cavalier-Tarheel Conference players made it. Armchair TV basketball buffs will have things to their liking the next few days. Already filled with two ACC tournament semi-final games last Friday and the championship Saturday following an NCAA first round game between Notre Dame and Miami of Ohio Saturday afternoon, the happy news is that there is more to come. Thursday night at 7 P.M. WTVO-Channel 11, will televise the second round NCAA game from College Park, Md. between Davidson and St. John's. At 9 P.M., the Carolina Tarheels will take on Duquesne, 73-52 winners over St. Joseph's in the first round. Saturday, WTVD will televise the NCAA quarterfinals. Two games beginning at 2 P.M. Sunday, the opening round game of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) will be televised from Madison Square Garden beginning at 1:30 P.M. on WTVD. Thursday, March 20, WTVD will show the action in the NCAA Eastern Championship from Louisville, Ky. at 7:30 P.M. On Saturday, March 22, Channel 11 will televise the NIT championship game from 2 to 4 P.M. and beginning at 4 P.M. the NCAA Tournament Championship game from Louisville, Ky. will be shown. The information on these games was supplied by WTVD and were corrected last week. The dream of a berth in the national finals in Hutchinson, Kansas came to an abrupt end at the hands of an overpowering Gardner Webb five that downed the locals 142-85. Outclassed from the start, the 'Canes giving away inches in height, had fallen behind 64-32 at halftimi and the G-W's had little trouble com pleting the rout in the second half. Louisburg had kept the dream alive on a couple of free throws by George Bow den Friday night as they downed Spartansburg, 83-82. The Bowden tosses on a one and one situation had given the 'Canes a three-point lead. Spartansburg's Lisco Thomas drove the length of the court for a two-pointer as time ran out. Bobby Walker, Larry Pasc hall and Terry Davis tallied 61 of Louisburg's 83 points. Walker had a game high of 22 points; Paschall, the team's leading scorer, contributed 21; while Davis, who led his club in rebounding with 14 retrieves, brought home 18 markers. Louisburg led by as many as eight points In the second half and then fell behind by three before taking the lead for good at 75-73 with less than five minutes remaining. Although Spartanburg out shot Louisburg from the floor and led in field goals, Louis burg made up the difference by connection on 23 of 31 charity tosses while the losers managed 12 of 13. Jerry Martin with 21 points led the Spartanburg scoring and Thomas hauled down a game high of 15 rebounds. Gardner-Webb takes a 27-3 record to Hutchinson, Kan., on March 14th for the na tional Junior College Tourna ment. Louisburg terminated its season with a respectable 21-9 mark. Bill Stagnola led all scorers with 32 points for the win ner. John Adams and Dick Fleming, in reserve roles, net ted 22 and 26 points respec tively.
