Army Specialist Five Earl B. Oldham, son of Mr. and Mrs. Millard B. Old ham, Louisburg, N. C., is par ticipating in Annual Service Practice with his unit, the 30th Artillery Brigade, on Okinawa. He is an air defense controller in the brigade's Headquarters Battery. During this training ex ercise, the men of the brigade actually fire their Hercules and Hawk missiles at a drone target far out over the East China Sea. The mission of the missile men on Okinawa is to protect the island against air attack. On each firing .site the mis siles and launching crews are subjected to daily checks to insure they are ready to "go" at a moment's notice. 35 AT COS! Lamm, betteT known to his Franklin Coun ty neighbors as "Mr. Tom mie", has one of the largest swine breeder operations in the Seven Paths, Community that can be found anywhere. "Mr. Tommie" with his "first love ? agriculture" help ed organize the Franklin County Farm Bureau, served as county chairman of "Crop Control", county chairman of Farmers Home Administra tion. and was director of the National Farm Loan Adminis tration. In 1935. he, 'purchased his first two "Spots" and from then until now he has con tinously gained recognition statewide, nationally and else where as an outstanding swine breeder. , "Mr. Tommie" was for many years secretary-treas urer of the North Carolina Spotted Poland China State Association which he helped to organize and was very ac tive in similar organizations. In 1962-63, he was named "Man of the Year" by the Animal Science Club at N. C. State University. His portrait hangs in the Agricultural Hall of Fame on the NCSU cam pus. Recently, "Mr. Tommie" was honored at a dinner of the National Spotted Poland China Conference being held in Greenville, N. C. He, hes itatingly, attended with his daughter, Mrs. June Chewn ing of Goldsboro, as his ban quet partner. It was a surprise testimonial banquet in "Mr. Tommie" 's honor and na tional executive secretary Duane Fort described the honoree as "a servant, of God, an educator, an agricultural leader, and a swine breeder." The citation presented to "Mr. Tommie" said "in recog nition of Lamm's long and M T. LAMM meritorious service to the N. C. Spotted Breeders Associa tion."
