o'clock in the afternoon on
June 1. Rev. Rudd was
former pastor of Plank
Chapel Methodist Church and
is now Evangelist for the
United Methodist
Conference.
Class Day exercises will be
held Tuesday morning, June
3, at 11. 00 o'clock.
Graduation exercises will
be Tuesday night, June 3, at
8.00 o'clock The speakers
will be the valedictorian,
Charlene Hedgepeth, and the
salutatorian, Deborah
Pendergrass.

high school girls could finish

tinued school in segregated
classes in neighborhood stores
right through child birth.
Now there are six classes tak

MRS. VIOLA ASBILL HOLT
Mrs. Viola Asbill Holt, 73,
of Star died Wednesday night
in Montgomery County Hos
pital. Funeral services will be
held Friday at 2 p.m. at the
Biaco Presbyterian Church.
Burial will follow in the Bisco
cemetery.
Surviving are one daugh
ter, Mrs. Thomas F. East of
Louisburg, Hoyle Holt and
Jack Holt, both of Raleigh;
two sisters, Mrs. George Scott
of Star and Mrs. J. D. Burgant
of Greensboro and one broth
er, Ernest Asbill of Bisco.

Mrs. Betty Weathers of
Youngsville. She spoke on the
importance of holding an of
fice and also some of the
highlights of her experiences
as Second Vice President of
the Federation of Woman>
Clubs.
The devotion for the meet
ing was given by Mrs. Virginia
Southerland.
During the business ses
sion. presided over by Mrs.
Pat Myers, outgoing president
of the club, two new mem
bers. Mrs. Dorenda Stewart
and Mrs. Dianne Collie, were
introduced. The introduc
tions were made by Mrs.
Betty Bumette and Mrs. Mar
garet Hill.
Installation of officers for
the coming year was made by
Mrs. Betty Weathers. The new

The "Woman of the Year"
award was presented to Mrs.
Margaret Hill by Mrs. Pat
Myers, outgoing president of
the club. The award is given
for outstanding work in the
club's activities over the past
year.
Mrs. Barbara Alston, Presi
dent of the club for the next
two years, is the wife of
Wayne Alston. Mr. Alston is
an employee of the telephone
company here and Barbara is
employed as a secretary at
Louisburg Tire and Recap
ping Company. The Alstons
have two children, Wayne,
age eight, and Kim, age six.
Aside from being active in the
Louisburg Methodist Church,
Mrs. Alston is also a member
of the Maude McKinne Circle.

from 6:30 p.m. until 9

Memorial Hospital today
issued a request for magazines
and paperback, books for the
magazine cart at the hospital.
Any recent issues of the
favorite women's magazines
or magazines which would be
enjoyed by men or children,
and paperback books are bad
ly needed for the use of the
patients.
These may be brought to
the hospital, or you may call

she will pick them up.
