In Service CLARENCE N. RICHARDS USS Kitty Hawk (FHTNC) - Seaman Apprentice Clar ence N. Richards, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher Richards, Jr. of Route, Young sville, N. C., is serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk off the coast of Vietnam. While off Vietnam, planes from the Kitty Hawk help provide air support to U. S. and Allied ground forces fighting the $nemy. In addi tion the planes also destroyed enemy targets in South Viet nam. Upon completion of flight operations the Kitty Hawk will return to Bremer ton, Washington where she will undergo a yard period. The carrier became the first ship to receive the Presi dential Unit Citation during the Vietnam War. RAYFORD S. MARTIN US Army Training Center (Air Defense), Fort Bliss, Texas - Private Rayford S. Martin, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey S. Martin, Route 1, Louisburg, N. C., has gra duated from advanced indivi dual training at the Army Training Center (Air Defense) at Fort Bliss and will become an automatic weapons crew man. He was assigned to A B|t tery,? 1st Battalion, 1st Ad vanced Individvil Training Brigade. Pvt. Martin attended Bunn High School in Bunn, N. C. JAMES GREENE USS Forrestal (FHTNC) -- Fireman James Greene, USN, son of Mt. and Mrs. James Greene of Route 4, Louis burg, N. C., is serving aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS Forrestal in her home port of Norfolk, Va. During the next few mon ths the 80,000 ton "super carrier" will undergo routine maintenance and retraining in preparation for her next de ployment. Franklin Cancer Unit Re-organizes Rev. W. P. Childers, Presi dent of the Franklin County Cancer Unit, held a combined committee meeting Wednes day night. June twenty-fifth, for the purpose of formulat ing organizational plans for the coming year. The meeting was held at the home of Unit Treasurer Mrs. W. C. Timber lake in Youngsville. The budget committee is headed by chairman Mrs. Ju lia Carr of Franklinton, the Special Awards Committee by chairman A. E. Hall, and the nominating committee by Mrs. N. A. Brown. The nomi nating committee has sche duled an additional meeting to finalize plans, with results to be announced later at the annual meeting of the County Cancer Society. The Franklin County unit is one of more than a hun dred units of the N. C. Divi sion of the American Cancer Society. All officers, com mittee chairmen, crusade workers and Board of Direc tors are volunteer workers. For the past year over one hundred volunteers in the county have been active with the Cancer Unit.
