(U.S. Air Force Photo) B ERNIE ROWLAND ED WARDS Sp/5 Bernie Rowland Ed wards is now stationed near Heidleberg, Germany with the 509th EN. DET. (T). He was inducted into the U. S. Army on Oct. 21; 1968 at Raleigh, N. C. He did his basic training at Fort Bragg. N. C. He was assigned to the Tenain Analysis Div. After a short leave in December he continued his training at Fort Belvoir, Va. until Aug. 1st. He and his wife, Sondra, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gra ham Cash of Franklinton, N. C. returned to Franklinton for a short leave. He reported to Fort Dix, N. J. on Aug. 24th and on Aug. 25th flew to Germany. His wife will join him early in October. They will be gone for two years. Sp/5 Edwards is the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Edwards. Sr. of Route 2, Franklinton. N. C. He is a graduate of Franklinton High School, Louisburg College and N. C. State University. After a six months period of training, in Green County, Kinston, N. C. he was promoted to Work Unit Conservationist in Green County from August, 1968 until his induction in to the U. S. Army. He lived in Snow Hill, where his wife taught Junior choral groups in the Greene County School Sys tem until June, 1969, when she joined Bernie. They lived In Alexandria, Va. I It Is always difficult to work when you have tome thing else on your mind. H. K. DICKENS, JR. WITH U. S. COMBAT AIR FROCES, Vietnam - U. S. Air Force Staff Sergeant H. K. Dickens, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. H. K. Dickens, Sr., Rt. 2, Louisburg, N. C., has received the Air Medal for air action in Vietnam. Sergeant Dickens, a medi cal specialist at Pleiku Air Base, was cited for his out standing airi janship and cour age on successful and impor tant missions under hazar dous conditions. He is assigned to the 903 Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, a unit of the Paci fic Air Forces. The sergeant is a graduate of Edward Best High School. His wife, Faye, is the daugh ter of Mrs. Cedonia Boone, Rt. 4, Louisburg. The bugle call known today as Taps was composed by ? Union general, Daniel Butter field, in 1862, according to the National Geographic So ciety book, THE CIVIL WAR.
