Cat lett hit on nine of eleven Edward Best Girls Dropped The Edward Best girls were edged 22-20 by thf girls of Oxford Orphanage Friday night but the Eagles dubbed the Red Devils, 70-54. The win was the fifth against no defeats for the Granville girls. Ray Gupton paced the Eagle win with 26 points and Kenneth Bass led the Red Devils with 16. Canes Take Consolation Game In Tourney The Louisburg Hurricanes sputtered Friday night and came out on the short end of a 90-85 score in the Blue Ridge Tournament played at Spruce Pine. The winner, TYuett- McConnell College of Georgia went on to capture the title Saturday night in a shoot-out with Kittrell Col lege, 118-111. Louisburg bested Lees-McRae in the consola tion game Saturday night, 87-67. Lees- McRae lost to Kittrell in the opening round Fnday night, 95-93. Center Karl Binns hit 23 points against the Canes Fri day night and Leon Hayes, a sub, matched his teammate's total. Teny Davis, ramed to the All Tourney team, hit the hoop for the Canes to the tune of 26 points. Mark Wilson hit 19 and Larry Paschall was held to 10. In Saturday's consolation contest, Paschall led the lo cals with 24, followed closely by Davis' 23 as the Canes gained a 3-point halftime lead and coasted to the 20- point margin in the second stanza. Ricky Richardson, Cane center, will spend Christmas with his foot in a cast. He has a broken middle metatarsal received in'the Chowan game last December 6. He is ex pected to rejoin the team in mid-January. The Canes return to the cage wars on January 8 against North Greenville there. On January 9-10, the locals play a round-robin set at Brevard and on January Bulldogs Fall, 72-65 Apftx outscored Louisburg 9-2 in overtime to -pi n a 72-65 on the Bulldogs in a Fmnklin Best Clips Oxford Edward Best took an early lead Friday night and went on to an easy 70-54 win over Oxford Orphanage. Ray Gupton paced the Ed ward Best attack, scoring 26 points. Terry Willis hit for 13 and Tommy May added 11. Orphanage was led by Ken Bass, with 16 markers am. Johnny Thompson, who no tched 11.
