I i. . ? ! Ttie Knia;lta of Labor. A fewday8 ago a reporter was con versing With a prominent Knight of La bor and asked the question; ''How many Knights are there in Raleigh ?" The answef was "There are over 1,200;. you can say 1,200.'' Yesterday a reporter was told. that the number in Raleigh, or rather In Raleigh township, is now over 1,500. .There are three assemblies in Raleigh,' and applications were, some time ago' made for the organization of two more. The formation! of assemblies was stopped for forty days, such was tho pressure; the charters and necessary papers, &c , could not be furnished. Thjs period of forty days terminated yesterday and the new assemblies' will probably very soon be put in working order. There are applications on file for.the formation of seven assemblies in Wake county. Of these one is in New Light,; one in St. Mary's,1 one in Cary, one in Buckhorn, wo in Swift Creek. A,night said yesterday that in liyear there will be assemblies in every county in the State. .As he expressed it, "the: State will be thoroughly j organized." ; The Knights are greatly, pleased with the success of their tobacoo factory. It is far behind on orders.; The new. cut-' ting machine begins work, Monday. There are over twenty persons employed in the : factory. It may Jbe mentioned as-a- faet that the neat .white- pine boxes come in s"shook8" from Michigan, and cost, laid down, about tea cents each. Perhaps-; sometime, the valuable spruce and white pine of Western North Caro lina will be utilized for boxesV The- figures giving the number, of Ktiightsi x)f Labor will xeite surprise imljohg the uninitiated. ;;TiheBe will be yet more astonished to learn' that there; ar 300s female member of the order iefe.
