The altitude of the Pittsboro road at Moncure is 180 feet above the level of the ocean, and at Pittsboro it is 425 feet ; a difference between the two points of 245, feet. The road climbs 230 feet in 4J miles, the distance between Mon cure and a point just beyond Seymour's, where, a young mountain stood to bar its way. A petition is being circulated at Wil mington and is being numerously signed by those who signed the former petition for an election to decide on the question of a subscription by the city to the Onslow railroad, the effect of which will be to still further muddle an already sufficieutly muddled matter. Ho wooed and won Miss Emily Margaret Wilkes, a highly respected young lady, and they were married. The wedding was a brilliant affair; the floral decorations were elaborate, and the breakfast cost $500. The horeymoon was spent in London in rooms that cost $30 per day. One day a detective called on an aunt of Dr. Vivian and stowed her a photo graph, at tho 6auie time asking if it did not resemble the ductor. The aunt said it did and the . detective remarked that the photograph was a picture of Jim Barnct, a notorious convict, who was wanted on both Bide of the Ailantic. When the doctor wbs told of the story ho swore roundly and started for police headquarters to dress somebody down. He got into the wrong road, however, and was making for a depot, when a de tective gathered Lim in. The last named citizen was released . from prison last February. The young wife is in a terrible state of mind. She will be slow to marry a stranger next time.
