Stirewalt. J The foot race was won by Murray Peeler; wheelbarrow race - 'by-Job n. Fink ; sack race by Lee . Barger ; three legged race by Geo 1 Peeler and Geo. Hodge ; old jsoldiersrace by iM. A. Stirewalt ; potato race by Chas. Raney. The features ot the evening were the pole per formances by ill Fesperman, and the acrobatic exhibition by 4 R. p. . Stirewalt.. Both men did fine work and kept the crowd won- dering. Shuping, was recently married to Miss Beulah Cannon, of Converse, S. C. . After a tour to New York, Washington and Philadelphia tney will spend a few days at Faith, with Mr. Shu ping's parents, and will then re turn to Converse, where Mr. Shu ping has a position as operator and depot agent. Mrs, Wm. Canjip,who is visit ing her son-in-law nea- China Grove, hurt herself by a fall the other day. L. M. Peeler brought the first cotton bloom to cur office on-the second of July. Rowe is a fine orator, and his sermons are very impressive. The Qaeolina . Watchman is the best county paper we have, and one among the best papers in the State. St. Matthews' is without a preacher again, but we can have Sunday School all the same. Nathan Morgan is visiting his grandd aughter, Mrs J Knox Stoher, near here. One of our good holiness peo ple -got out of bread a few days since, before he joined the holi ness church. His preacher told him if he got Jioly and" sanctified the . Lord would furnish him the bread." So when he got but of bread, he made a 'fire in the stove, gathered his family around 'and prayed for one hour. He opened the stove and' found no bread.
