Grandpa Peeler went to Rocks Grove church to attend preaching 'on Sunday, the 17thr, in the car riage with the young people. P. A. Peeler is building a bam for W. Bame. The 17th, 18th and 19th of March our peach blossoms opened very -fast. Friday, March 22nd, J T, Artz, Luther Fisher and Andy Beaver hauled a fine monument to Mocks ville. N. C. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel H.inceman went up on the train -and Mr, HincemaujsuperiuteDded the placing of the monument Sat urday while Mrs, Hinceman was visiting her uncle's family. The monum3nt was cut by the Faith Granite Co., out of granite. The Misses Liugle have received their spring hats and millinery goods for the Easter trade. Mrs. Robert Stirewalt and Mrs. Addie Ketner have opened a mil linery store at Mrs. Stirewalt's residence. This makes two mil linery stores for our little town. There will be communion ser vices at the Lutheran church Eas- foT finnftv at. .11 rrnlrek. The text will be in First Cor,, 15th chapter: "Now is Christ risen from the dead." There will be a free entertainment Easter Monday night by the Children's Mission Band at 8 p. m. Mr. Swaim moved near Mt. Pleasant from Faith Mareh 21st. There will be communion ser vices at the Reformed church here on Easter Sunday at 11 o'clock. We beleive that Rev. C. B. Heller of the Reformed church her 3, with the help of his congre gation, will have a handsome par sonage erected in our town before very long. David Lefler is building three new residences to rent out. Two of them are done. A vonner gentleman arrived at Mr. and Mrsr Frank Miller's op March 9th. Rev. James A. Peeler is assist ing Rev. P. W. Tucker, of the M. J. church, in the series of meetings going on here. Miss Beulah Ridenhour, of Mi senhsimer Springs, if visiting her sister, Mrs. Vance Fisher, who is confined to Her home with grippe. W. S. Earnhardt will soon have a large fine storehouse built for L, J. Kluttz. The foundation was laid March 22nd, and a force of rnn are at work on it. - Mr. and Mrs. Walter- Barrage are visiting at Mr. and Mrs. FrankMiller's. DUNN'S MOUNTAIN. . March" 25th. The Health cf vour community is generally gool at this time. The farmers have been busv plowing for the past week or so preparatory for the future crop. The recent wind storm that passed" through this section did considerable damage. Th Bap tist church near here was damaged to the extent of 75 or $100. D. M. Kesler's house was damaged considerably, bat this has been repaired. C. L, Kesler has treated him self and family to a new stove. Jno. Leonard met with a close calk a few days since while on his way home from Salisbury. On the steel bridga over the Southern Railroad, a horseback rider met Mr. Leonard. The horse became mn-manageable and got tangled up in a front wheel of his (Leon ards) buggy and smashed it to pieces. The man on the horse, however, made good the damages. Now had Mr. Leonard been near the wheel and gotten" tangled tip with said , horse he would have had a few spokes knocked out also ! We are glad to see John sound and well. Accidents will happen to the best of people. Mrs. M. J. Cauble spent Satur day and Sunday with her daugh ters, Mrs. Trexler and Mrs. Kluttz, It is a curious fact, but true, that some men act like hogs, and then tbere are some who do not need to act, it's natural. D. M- Kesler is getting lum ber, etc., on the ground prepar ing to finish his dwelling house. When complete be will have a nice time. Councilor F.- L. Agner was not in his place Saturday night at the meeting of No. 106, being unable to attend on account of the sick ness of his brother. F. Cauble vhited J. C. Trexler, of Salisbury, on Sunday the 17th. L. A, Peeler, who has been sick with grippe for the past month, is able to be out again, we are glad to note. Mr. and .Mrs L. C. Charlie, and Misses Carrie and Pearl Cauble, visited their sister, Mrs. George Brown, Saturday night and Sunday, . PlTSEY. -SOUTH ROWAN. March 25th. Mifs Katie Barger was visiting her sister near Shuping Bros, mill last week. D, A. Pcwlas, who had a spell of the grippe six weeks ago, and also a stroke of paralysis, is now recovering. He is able to walk about in the house. Frank Jackson, who had a spell of the pneumonia is able to be out again. John Barger and his wife, Mrs. Catharine Barger, who live near Clark's store, are confined to their beds with grippe. MiJo.A; Overcash bought a colt recently which is about 2 years old, and he has had it hitched to tne wagon a tew times. Me says it seems to be very gentle. We wish him success with it. James R. Stadlar purchased some watermelon seeds at Clark's store named "Sweetheart." He says he did not hare a sweetheart and that he is going to plant them and see what melons they would produce. We wish him great suc cess with them. Eli D. A. Sifford'a little baby is very ill. It has something like tonsil itis, ine two Daiioons tnat went up at the Park's Academy have ben located where thay fell. It is said the largest one fell in John Yost's pasture, near Yost s store. The smallest one fell in Arch Slaugh's cotton patch near Rock Grove church. The largest one -went a distance of about 8 miles and the .smallest cne a distance - of about miles. Harvey L. Sifford has killed two black snakes within the last week. This is a sign that sum mer is coming. Rocker. BOSTiAN'S X ROADS. March 25th. Fine weather for farming. It is hot enough, 92 degrees. Calvm Pless has bought a fine horse. We suppose he is now go ing to farm right. We can hardly say too much in favor of pur R. F, D. No. and the carrier, Mr. Canup. It is a handy mail. mt . - j. ne commencement exercises at our school were grand. The first day's exercises included a gift from the teacher of & sticks and 4 balls of candy each for her few little fellows. This would bp a sweet morsel for a professor who has held office for 15 years Thp second day's exercises included speeches by the scholars, and a grand traction ei.gine ride by the teacher and others while the pu pils yelled at the. top of their voices. We did not. get to school but one day during this session and also did not attend the clos ing exercises, as, we hado stay n home and plant corn. We would like to know what the last legislature did about raising the taxes higher, so we can plant some more cotton seed so as to be able to pav our , schnni and road tax next winter. We hear they have made a number of things worse. T, A. P. Roseman and wife went to Rockwell the other day to look at a house and lot. Thev are expecting to buy, Calvin Eddleman and family went to Salisbury Saturday to visit lits brother-in-law, George Kluttz. Thomas Bangle is putting up a nice house for himself and wife. That's right boys, get -married and settle down to house keeping. Albert Thomas swapped horses last week. I have something I would like to swap him. Just call to see me and maybe we can trade. I am told Ruth and her beau got lost while coming from Bar ker's exhibition the other Satur day uight. She ought to have taken a lantern. The farmers in this community are all busy preparing for another crop of oorn and cotton. David S.
