tHECAROdHA WATCHMAN. Local News Items Two c mmnuications have been received this week which did not contaiu the names of the writers, and on this account we cannot publish them. One was from Gold Hill and the other from BoBtains X Roads. Send your names with your articles if you want them to appear in tfy) paper. Rev. E K. Mccarty will begin a protracted meeting at the First Methodist church next Sunday night. It has not yet been an nounced how long the meeting will continue. G. W. Frick & Co. have moved into one of the storerooms of the new Empire block on Main street. The growing business of this firm demanded more room. Bishop Cheshire conducted ser vices Monday night at St. Luke's Episcopal churcn and confirmed two persons. A large congrega tion was present. A kitchen on W. M. Linker's lot on Fisher street, was destroy ed by fire Saturday night. The origin of the fire is not known. Miss Pearle Barringer and W. M. Dobbins, of the county, were married Sunday at St. Judes chap el, Rev. L. W. Blackwelaer of ficiating. Scott Freeman, who lives in Unity township, lost his house and his household effects by fire last Friday night. None of the family know how the fire origi nated. The Lutheran Ministers' Asso ciation, of Rowan county, held a meeting Tuesday at St. John's church. Rev. Geo. H. Crowell, of High Point, will -preach the annual BQrmon to the Odd Fellows, on Sunday, April 28th, at 5 o'clock p. m., at the First Methodist church. Miss Kathleen Kluttz has gone to Atlanta, to be bridesmaid at the wedding of her friend, Miss Ade laide Allen. Miss Allen has visit ed Miss Kluttz at her home here. THE ELECTION YESTERDAY. The primary election yesterday passed off quietly and resulted in the selection of the present in cumbent as the Democratic nomi nee for mayor of Salisbury, at the election in May. The vot& of each ward is given in detail. This vote shows a few more ballots were cast for the candidates for mayor than for .those for alder men. 967 votes were cast for mayor and 1776 for aldermen, and the latter number being cut in two, as each elector voted for two aldermen, makes this vote 79 less than that cast for mayor: Following is the vote by wards: Norh Ward For mayor, Van derford 195, Boyden 80, Heilig 2. Aldermen, Hennessee 150, Daniel 129, Crawford 102. South Ward. For mayor, Boy den 203,. Vanderford 89. Alder nun, Wallace 177, Welch 147, Beard 125, McCanless 99. East Ward. Alder men, Strachan 142, Maupin 140 Boyden 's majority 180. At 8 o'clock last night a con vention was held at the court house. After effecting a x perma nent organization the returns of the election were canvassed and the result declared in ac cordance with the result . given above. S. Cow With Hydrophobia. A cow. that belonged to J. Col umbus Williams was killed several days ago, the animal having de veloped sy mtpoms of hydrophobia. It is said that some saliva from the mouth of the cow got into some cuts or sores on the hands of a daughter of Mr. Williams, and also Officer Frank Cauble and his wife. The three went to Lexington and had the mad stone applied. It adhered for some time andlihe parties now consider themselves out of danger, Wanted.
