lllll'Mlt.W COLD HILL. Sejt. lGih. We are having fiue weather now for hay making and curing fodder and tops. The holiness meeting has closed and the colored people are now having their meeting at St. Johns, which is being well attended bv white as well as colored people. Miss Mabel Moose has been taken to; Charlotte waere she un derwent an operation for appendix citis. She was accompanied by Dr. Bowers of thia place. We un derstand the operation was snc cersful and that she is doing well. Mies Bertha Loftin, submitted to an operation at the sa.'vtorium in Salisbury for tfca removal of a large minor, wmtn it is said, was a very largo oue, weighing about 25 lbs. . We have several walking skele ten? streets now. Most of tuose wno nave been conhned to tneir beds with typhoid fever for ft-rn five to eight weeks are now uyv lu ub uui, uui are m a very emaciated condition. lrvm Shaver and Mrs. Hugh vtuueu aie enti connned to tut lr i j i x i i ueus, out are iowly recovering irom tat dread .disease, typhoid itver. Dr. Fitzgerald and wife have gone to the Healii g si rings. The Doctor's health has been failing lor Eome mouths and he has been advised to cease his strenuous practice and go to som? q?et pkee to rest and recuperate. -C. R, Morgan has started hi wood woikiog plant here near the depot, but he has found his well insufficient to supply water for his boiler. He is hauling water now to keep his plant going. Gues9 he will have to sink his well deeper. Times are a little dull here now, the Gold Hill Copper Co. is not doing anything more than to pump water, and the Union Copper Co. has shut down their No 7. shaft, preparatory, it is said, to put up a stamp mill with which to work the ores. This throws a good many miners out of employment. Some r-f the boys are talking of going down in Alabama to the coal and iron mints to work. The Southern mine is waiting on a laige boih-r front ai d smoke stack before starting h'ir 'stamp mill arid thaft park. Air Xewm iii is having f. me'eor! wtod cut on 1 he Troutmau mine property. R. .Rufty is at his store again after a five weeks epell of fever He says he is a little disfigured but still in the ring. The Watchman failed to come to Gold Hill week before last, and its 200 subscribers here were sadly disappointed. Can the editor ex plain why it didn't come? Mike. We very much regret that such a thit-g should happen. We give personal attention to mailing of The Watchman and spare no ef f ( rt in havig it properly wrapped, directed and placed in the post office here. We feel confident that the large package for Gold Bill was prepared as usual and put in the posttffice, but further than this we are ui.ab'e to go. We have made ii quiry at thn postoffi?e, and while the clerks there belieye the package was properly dis patched, nothing definite could be "learned. We are not the kind that always pl?ce the blame of misplaced mail on the postal ser vice. We have entire confidence in thoEe who handle the mail here, we fer 1 sure that they are as qare ful and pains-taking as conditions luat uif 're are not many more errors than there i-, but they,- as we, are but human and are as liable to err as it n for the sparks J. "I t T 1 to ny upwaras. We nave pat up mail for manyyiars and cannot bring ourselves to the belief that we failed to mail such an impor tant package. If it -had been our fault it would have bepn discov ered, for the reason that the 200 papers would have remained here in our office to show the error, yet it is strange that such a package could be lost between Salisbury and Gold Hill. It is the cus'om of the postal service, should a package go wrong, generally, not always, to notify publishers of the fact ar.d make a request for better directions ai d postage. This has 1 ot yet occuired in this case. We hr j e, 1 owtvf r.- that such will not occur r.gain. Ed. Watchman. Trial Catarrh treatments are be ing mailed out free, on request, by Dr. Shoop, ilacine, Wis.
