C. Shaver and family visited at Mrs. P. L. Arey's Sunday eve- ning.J A young gentleman arrived at A. W. Shaver's Sunday Septem ber 29th, and has not yet told his name. Mr. and Mrs. John Tolbert and sister, Miss Agnes, of Concord, are in onr community visiting rel atives. We are expecting several wed dings to report soon. Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Arey visited at A, W. Shaver's Sunday even ing. Mr. and Mrs. I. C. Shaver and little son visited in Stanly Octo ber 5th and 6th, going by Bethel M. E. Church for quarterly meet ing Saturday morning. From there they went to Tom Kirk's, near Norwood, then on to Ran dall's M. E. church Sunday morn ing, where they heard an excellent sermon preached by Rev. A. L. Stanford. On their return home, they attended revival services at New London Sunday night. Blue Eyes. Oct. 14. Picking cotton and sowing oats seems to be the order of the day along now. Edgar L. Peeler started-ro school at Crescent last Monday. We wish him success. Corn shuekings are in full blast along now. It seems that every body wants to be in fashion whether they have got as much as a half dozen loads or not. We expect to have a wedding or two to report in the near future. M. L. Boger has moved from his farm at this place to live with his fathernear Mt. Ja. rtick d little daughter, of near Craven, visited Mr. Frick's parents re cently. M. L. Cauble, our molasses maker, has been doing some, fine work this season. Mr. Cauble made nearly 200 gallons for him self. Monroe Peeler and family, of Faith, and Rev. W. W. Rowe spent Saturday night at L. T Peeler's. Guess they enjoyed the o possum supper fine. Communion services were held at St. Luke's Sunday. A large crowd attended. A number of young folks visit ed at C. L. Frick's Sunday even ing. Patsy was among them , and enjoyed the fun very much. If you don't feel like laughing much you had better, not be around Charlie for he' can make any one laugh, It seems like the young man who visits at the mill pond, is kinder scared to travel after night, as he goes before sun down and stays till sun up. Evean Wyatt, widow of an old Confederate soldier, Gilbert Ivey Wyatt, of Company K, fifth N. C. volunteers, is still living and draws a pension every year, but taken suddenly sick a few days ago and is confined to her bed. Mrs. Clementine J osey, who is living with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James Nance, is very sick. Harvey Brown has had his corn shucking, Caleb Hess has had his shucking and Luther Kluttz has had his. We receive a great many letters from people inquiring for infor mation on different subjects. One wants to know where he can get a carpet woven. Another wants to know where he can get a de posite of gold, where he can float a dredge boat to dip up gold bearing gravel. Another writes: 'do you know where I can get to keep house for some family where I can do the cooking, washing and ironing." Another . says: "Come to the fair at Salisbury, Oct. 29th to Nov. 1st, and bring your collection of curiosities and let the people see them." Another writes: "Have The Watchman sent to me for one year." Baxter Raney, the clerk at Raney Brothers & Co's. store at Granite Quarry, is aty his home here confined to his bed with fever. Lewis Kluttz is filling his place at the store. ; - ;c The Faith millinerr store have opened in the McNairy building and are getting in the falloods. Solomon Yost was able to walk to the store Saturday. The county road force, Mr. Carter, superintendent, is making a good road from Faith towards Salisbury. Charlie Glenn Farmer, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Farmer, cele brated his first annual birthday Ocf. 10, 1907. We were invited to the big dinner which' was given on the occasion. Rev. C. B, Heller has gone to Virginia and from there he goes to Washington, D. C,, and Nor fork, Va., to take in the James town Exposition. DukeTrexler, who is home from school on account of sickness, is about ready to go back. There is a great deal of moving going on in this com munity just now. Cotton gins are in a hustle just now. Cotton is more than half out and sold. A Mr. Cook is going to move to O. Cauble's. We are informed that Burt Graham has rented W. H. Bost's farm. John. A meeting of the Law and Order League was held last Friday night at the First Presbyterian church, and a number of matters affecting the moral well be,ing of the city were discussed. It was decided to prosecute any and all persons known to be violators of the law ov erning houses of ilL repute. A committee was appointed tp look after this matter, R.
