A Cause Has Triumphed, What it Means
Speaking to students at
Princeton on the night of the
election, Governor Wilson
said :
"The lesson of this election
is a lesson of responsibility.
1 believe very heartily that a
cause has triumphed; that
the American people know
what they want; that they
have the men and purpose of
it, but that they cannot get
what they want through
activities of single men or a
Eingle session of Congress or
a single group of men. They
get it by long land tedious

you fellows to do what you
have more than generously
done by voting for me and
believing in me. I summon
you for the rest of your lives
to v.ork to set this govern
ment forward by the pro
cesses of justice, equity and
rairness.
"1 myself have no feeling
of triumph tonight. I have
a feeling of solemn responsi
bility. I know that a great
task lies 'ahead of the men as
Eclated with me and ahead
of myself, '.therefore, I look
up i you almost with the
plea that you with your best
purpose, stand behind me and
support the generous men in
the new administration. I
feel as if T were standing
among my younger comrades
tonight."
