Six miles touth of this place on the Catawba River stands a peach tree with the high water records on it since loui. This tree which is now on the farm of L. W. Hix, was mark ad bv his errand father in the year 1801, and the high water record at tbat time was 20 feet above the average water level. Again in 1847 there appears a date indicating a new record of 27 feet. The next record appears on Jnne 18, 1876, and shows tne watej to have reached a heierht of 28 feet. September 22, 1898, the recoid was again broKen by the water reaching height f 28 feet and eight inches May 22, 1901, it took anotn er run and this time reached 37 feet and three inches This record remained unbrokv pn until Julv 16 when the flood climbed ud on the acred peach tree 54 ieet and nine inches. The record of the freshets were cut into the bark of the tree first by Alexander Clake mrin&r h's life time and at hu death th racords were marked on the tree by the late J J. Venus went to Lowerstone in an automobile Sunday with J D A Fisher to attend tke kome coming. It was largely attended and.it was a fine day. We never saw so many automobiles there before at one time. The table that had the big fine free dinner was 33 steps long. Rev Paul Barringer conducted the exercise . Mr Rufus Fisher, perhaps the oldest one.-there, made a nice talk. The body of one of the children drowned in North Cove was found yesterday in a drift of lumber near Bridgewaters4 12 m'les below where a landslide swept the house into the river.
