THE CAROLINA WATCHMAN SALISBURY, . C. Rife fa S by I Written p8 C0RBE5PGMDEN FAITH. Maj 15 The new officers for otir little town have just been elected and sworn in and are as follows: Mayor, J L Peeler; town commissioners, L M Peel er, M G M Fisher, L F Ward , T R Hess, and R L Barger. They go in for the coming term oi' two years. Venus took dinner at Mr. and Mrs. W A Shuping's Sunday for the first time. Mr. Shuping is the owner of Rock roller mil' .and has a good custom. H i s , ilo u s can't be beat in this country. We got a fine dinner. Their boj has a lot of bees. Thev have a hydraulic ram that puis the water in the house Hud milk house near the kitchen, lie- ha. a home made auger, - inches. Who can beat that? We visited the Taylor mat tress factory in Salisbury and fouud James D HeiJig. the mana ger, a mighty busy m.n. We were surprised to see how fast they could, make mattresses The machinery is run by elec tric power. We saw all the dif ferent parts in operation aiul the mattresses turned out ready for sale. Fred A Olds of Raleigh, direct or of Carolina .Hail History and lawyer J R McCrary of Lexing ton, trustee of the Boone associa tion. Came over in Mr McCra ry 's car to Faith to see Venus and his collection. J T Wyatt has an old large copper kettle with letters and a date on the handle. He bonght it 17 years ago at Milas Shu ping's sale and it belonged to Milas Shuping's father, Michea' Shuping, and is very old. It was used o make apple butter. A man from near Bostian's X Roads was in Faith today who had an old-time deed for 36 acres ' of land dated Dec. 16th, 1791 No. 2255. The land was bought for ten pounds. Who can tell u how much that was? (about $48 Ed.) Griffith Rutherford was surveyor at the time. We notice that Carolina has found a wheat cradle 125 years old. That beats us at present. In the yard at W A Shuping's is a redoak tree 13 feet and three inches around. Who ever can beat it trot out your tree. Pearl Wyatt of Rockwell is visiting her uncle and aunt in Salisbury, Mr. and Mrs. J M Wyatt, John W May of Hannahsville, N. C, had a fine exhibit of curios ftt the Daniel Boone cabin some years ago when Venus was there with a wagon load of curios. Rev. and Mrs. Harvey Fesper man are here ou a visit to rela tives and to attend the sale oi the late P A Peeler's property. D A Wiley is making bee gums and hiving his bees along now. Chal. Eagle was in Faith today in his new automobile. May 19. E. B. Enniss and Will D. Morgan of Salisbury, the painters, are here painting the residence of Mrs P. A. Peeler outside and inside and are doing a nice job, and W. S. Earnhardt and his crowd are putting on a new shingle roof on the entire building and repairing the chim neys. It looks like a new resi dence. Mr. and Mrs. J W. Jones of Salisbury, have moved back to Faith with Mrs. Jones' mother, Mrs. P. A. Peeler. The Ladies' Aid and Mission ary Society, of Shiloh Reformed church will meet at the residence of .Mrs. G. C Miller June 2nd, at 3 o'clock. Every member is requested to be present. J.-T. Wyatt received an order today for five pair mill stones. Lentz, r4 ? rvie the harness man, drove up lo Faith from the old soldiers' re union at Organ Church Thursday to see Venus and his collection and while here Venus got all ir pictures and each holding .. i i: J s .
