public affairs should be conduct

of ail fairly expressed, and, ow

IS THIS A DELIBERATE Mar among statesmen, but seldom
FALSEHOOD?
In a recent bulletin published
by the State Board of Health it
was admitted that these so-called
sanitary closets produced mos
quitos, but the writer tried to
dodge the responsibility adding
that they were the harmless va
riety. The . combined testimony
r of hundreds of honorable and in
telligent people who know where
of they speak consider the follow
ing statement little short of a
deliberate falsehood.
'I can absolutely state that the
sanitary closet is not responsible
for the great number of mos
quitos in this city, and if a little
kerosene is poured into them oc
casionally they will absolutely
breed no mosquitoes -Health Of
ficer.
The thing to do to get rid of
mosquitoes in Salisbury is to de
mand that the town and county
authorities fill up these so-called
sanitary closets at their own per
sonal expense, and discontinue
this health- officer farce. There
are some who are in favor of
demanding that the aldermen
county commissioners and mem
bers of the legislature who are
responsible for this so-called
health law be forced to re im
burse, out of their private purse,
the expenses incurred in the
erection of thesa closets and
hired meddlers. It was done
-without the consent or request of
the people and it is high time
that some steps were taken to
see that officials who ride on
high horses be made personally
and financially responsible foi
their stewardship. Of course
they will laugh at such an idea,
but it will not ever be thus.
