Only three of the ten first class

We send out this week in sup
plement form the annual statement
of the Board of County Commis
sioners for the, year ending Septem
ber 3rd 18S.V The statement will
show that while the Board has not
been niggardly in its' ''appropria
tions, it has been rigidly economi
cal and that the expenses.' ; have
been cut down as low as it has
been possible. Heretofore the
amount expended for the poor lias
consumed a largo proportion of
the funds at the disposal of the
commissioners- now, while no de
serving parties are refused help,
aid is extended from the poor
house and liegister Barnes informs
us t hat tlii.- will be a great saving
loth., county. The Court House
has been thoroughly renovated, re
paired and painted until there is
not, a neater Court House in the
state. At the last , -term of our
Court Judge Phillips oiiplimented
our Commissioners very highly for
t heir progressive spirit as thus evi
denced.; The iinances or the coun
ty were lie ver m a better condi
tion. It is true that for several
weeks during the past summer the
Treasurer was not able to pay the
county orders, but that was uiie to
the, fact that our late Sherill' was
behind in his accounts about ?G0OO.
Now, however, allorders are cashed
as presented to our Ti casurer. We
need not say-because it goes without
saying ;fhat Wilson county never
had on the whole a more progress
ive econoin ical, wide-awake lward of
conimissioiiers and the affairs of
the county were never more wisely
adininisteied.

The road would run through
