The Wi i son Advance mstyit A WEKKLY 'DEMOCRATIC XEWKPA fRR DEVOTEE TO THE MATERIAL, DCCATIOXAI., POLITICAL AND AO ICULTUKALISTERTf OF EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA . Published Every Friday Morning. Jwpkjs Daniels. ' Editor an4 Proprietor. II. Jt. HARDY.: .General Agent Friday. . Morning, November 16 The Becent Elections. While the result of the recent elections waw favorable to the Democratic party, and indica ted the election of a Democrat ic President next year, it con tained a wholesome- lesson which must not go unheeded. It tauirht ns that the Democrat ic party is stilt confronted by an unscrupulous and dangerous enemy. It gave unmistakable proof that the Radical party will subordinate everything to the chance of victory, and will make a death struggle to retain the spoils, which have kept hem together and upon' which thf.y Lave gloated for iuoe ; than twenfy years. If the Democratic leaders are influenced by wine counsel, they will profit by the lesson w hich hta been taught them. They will commit no serious blunder In the next Congress, and will act with becoming forbearance toward one another so as to preserve harmony in our ranks and present an undivided and victorious front to our common enemy when the day of battle comes. If on the other hand a spirit of intolerance on the tar iff or any other question is kept up, and wrangling and discord tre indulged in, we may expect defeat, and we may expect to see the government continued under the dominion of the pres ent corrupt dynasty which has so long disgraced our country'. We do trust that moderation, prudence and wisdom will mark the course of our representa tives in Congress. I f so, as sure as the ides of November 1884 nhall come, will our cause be victorious and Radical rule be numbered among the things of the past. At the late elections. .-Venn- i sylvania, Massachusetts, .Con necticut, Colorado, Kansas and ri l , i n 1.1: . . Aiiuiiemjiu weiu iinmuurau a 1 usual. It is true that the ma jorities in all of them were re duced, but the Democratic gains were not sufficient to warrant the hope of carrying either of them at the next election. It i not necessary, however, that we should gain either of these States to give us the victory. We look for success to other quarters and we find enough j od and they were not admitted .Democratic States, without any j into the Asylum. One day last week he came into our office and subscribed for two copies of the Advance to be sent to two boys, whose parents were una ble to read and who were too poor to pay for the paper. He said, in substance that they were deserving boys; loved to read and desired the -, paper ; that they were associates of his own children and that to cause them to be fit companions for his children and to make them good citizens, it was necessary that they be educated, and that for these reasons he wanted them to have the paper.' He is a man of ordinary education and makes no pretension to learning, and yet he is more of a philanthropist than any man in Wilson county. Rev. Dr. -I. B. McFerriri, of the M. E. Church South, died in Nashville, Tenn, Wednesday. He was one of the most celebra ted Methodist divines in the South, besides being head of the publishing house there.
