the following resolutions were
unanimously adopted:
Whrbas, It hath pleased Al
mighty God in his wisdom to take
from us in all the joy of boyish
brightness our beloved schoolmate,
John Lucas, whose uprightness,
honesty and manliness of character
endeared him to all whose privilege
it was to share his friendship.
Resolved, That in this sad afflic

who doeth all things well, and bow
with humble submission to His
holy will.1
Resolved, That though the tie
that bound us to our lamented
schoolmate has been severed by
the hand of death, though , that
warm and generous heart has ceas
ed to beat and that gentle spirit
has departed forever, his memory
shall live within onr bosom so long
as we have any appreciation of
truth, honesty, justness and loveli
Resolved, That while, we keenly

this seclion of the State. It is not
simply the fact that the negroes
