B, Howard, who receive ed injuries by the explosion of an engine at Rod Oak, this county, died on Dec 12th. I learn from good authority that president J. R. Braswell, of Nash, was united in marriage to Mis Jennie, daughter of J. J. Cooke, Esq., of Franklin. I extend the newly wedded my wai meet congratulations. C. Bunting at Phil adelphia cburcb on Deo. i4th, and althoagh the weather was cold about one thousand people wit nested the solemn rites of the Ma aonio fraternity. Rev. G. M. Duke, delivered an impressive sermon upon the occasion. A Tournament at Black Creek. A tournament was held at Black Creek on Tuesday Dec. 23d. The largest and one of the best behaved crowds we have ever seen assembled here was present. Disorderly con duct c f any kind was especial ly noted for its absence. The exercises commenced with an address t the Knights by P. L. Woodaad, Esq. Five tllta vere allowed each Knight. A. W. Walston succeeded in catch ing thirteen rings out of a pos sible fifteen: N. R. Whit ley, twelve; W. A. Brooks, five; C. F. Harris, seven, R. Win stead, ten. In conjunction wiih the honor of crowning the Queen of Love and Beauty and the Maids of Honor, a riding saddle and bridle was given to the first; a buggy robe to the second, and a buggy whip to the third most successful Knicrhts. A. W. Walston crowned Miss Sallie Pool, of Contentuea, Quesn of l.ove and Reautv. and received the sad dle and bridle. N. R. Whitley crowned Miss Lnla Yelverton, of Stantonsburg. 1st- Maid of Honor and received the buggy robe: R.
