IIj says the SjuUi bas borne her trials and troubles with fortitude and tint reducing its people from wealth p is'tion and icfl icnce to pocrty, and insignificance was enough to turn the dispositions df the Siuttiern people; and that while he was um nig tlic first to condemn slavery, after its abolition he wanted peace a id l ive, and c mi muiiiou. This language i; sirpr'r ng, coming from one of tho m ist rampant ab.iliiioniits in the country, and llio brother too of the author of "Uncle Tom's Cibin." Surely there ii sinie thing new under the sun, when li 'ccbtr compliments the S jnt.li from ibe plut form. lie is willing to acknowledge tbe truth when he sees it, which is great deal more than many of our breth tea at the North I ke to do. If a few more were like Mr. Beecher bloody sbirl-ijns would soon cease to occupy the minds of our Nirthero breibern and tkeir political platforms would con tain more of the true issues than bare tjforc. Mr. IJjcchci'i words sounds as if they were honest, and we accept iboru a such, and whenever any ono extends the hands of kindles wc will not be alow to grasp it. At the same time we are not suffering because they refuse to s'lake, Mrs. S'.owp, too, hn cliansed or rather cuodifieJ her vies lately. probably from s'uccrily and probably becaose she has property among the fjrmer slave hulJors. Uj this as it msy, whatever the brother and tutor say has much i.ifluunce, and brings abaut, if persisted in, a kindiicr feeling buUceo the two sections, which is much needed and we bope good feelings will result more on account of their bcuightod souls than any thing else. BENITO II YAMK'U REPLY TO It LA I. Ml', Mr. lilaino argued that the Demo cracy 01 to-day was to carry out the principles of Calhoun and l eckioridre not moss 01 Jackson and Douglas. He spoke of the distinctive character of the school-books of the Suth, io which principles hostile to the Government were inculcated, and qioted as a case in poiot the fallowing question from one or the southern arithmetics : 11 icn cowardly lankees liuve two nay start and make eiht miles a day, b w loog will they run before bcin overtaken by fie brave CoufederaUs who are pursuing them ai the rate of ten antes a day f He referred t an adJress of John H. reston. of S -utb Carolina, at the Uni trsity of Virginia, in wbich be remarked tbat the Wiyfl.wer was filled with bor ror and crimes, the Jamestowo with freemen loyal to the country and to God. Mr. Morgan (De.n, Ala) said he doubled if such i;lio b ioks wire used U the South. If so ho would have hearJ or them. Tiien he road from thi vnrnuie? of the annual session of the African M-thodist Episcopal Ciurch held io 1878 to show that one of the inesabers was charged with Toting the Democratic ticket, and the conference upon cmi lering the case decided that the jurisdiction should be lodged with tho N.rth Alabama Coufercucc (Laughter.) Mr. Maine read an extract from a speech of Senator Himpton aod said that if that meant aaythmg it meant a great qcai. it memit the preparaii in for another couflxt, rhetoric. it was idle Mr. Hampton (Dem, S. I it ail ,r Wd'l"g. tbe South wis i.yo'ed with for yean, now held to be in the Uuron and new out of it, as best scrvtd iho ii terestsofthe dominant pnrtv. i'mall) it was declared out of tho Loion, en lirely given over to niurliul law, and chaos returned. Ten per cent, of the best citiz 'os were disfranchised and millions of the mure ignorant class en franihist d ; elections were held under the direct supervision of the troops, and tbe result of all this was the adaption of socalltd b.a'.e constitutions and the election of si called i.fli:crs, together forming a system undor winch the b 'Ulh was plundered until nothing reo.aincd worth stealing, Could any one wonder that the Sju'Ii snlidifiel against te party causing all this evil? There was uo luiruu iity trom the rrsa U o( it is conduct and all secti ins suff'.Ted from the bi'.leruess kfpt alive by tho bad pwl icy o( the Kipublican party towards the 3uth. I came es s ion as I coiiij. 1 caoio Here once ana von ould not open the door for mo. M Vance pon t .'d out that all the territory absorbed in the country's rapid growth had been acquired under Democratic rule except Alaska, a barren con ti v with a ilimatc which ho had hciud described as "..ine months winter and three months da nnation p ior weather." Under the Democratic rule there wis no Credit Mobilicr, no ll"turiiing Ji ard frauds, no Electoral Co nmission, no Helknop. The other side wailod nt the appronchicg cud of all thing", but the only thing conn g to an end was the corrupt IlphLl caii pirty. Ho qtotcd Gen. Augm's order of 18GC direction commanders to briog troops near enough to the p ills to assist civil olli errs, and Geo. Gran't orders to Geo. Augur to sec that fair returns were made in JiuiJiaiia in 187G. Tea thousand troops could Le speedily coccentratcd wherever 110 tltctmo was to be con trolled. Why shvuld not the preserva tion of peace at the polls be left with the states which had aUays shown ubility aod willingness to preserve their own governments? The smaller the organ ir'id cirrm iuity tho less likely its cor- ernmoul to ba corrupt. We seemed to be aband loing civil processes and turn ing everi'tiiinc over to tbe ormv. The logic of tbe Uepublicaus was, Elec tions shall be Ireo if we have to sur round the pi,l!s with bayonets; they shall be uccordiog t i State laws if we have to overawe the civil authorities by force to have it our way ; they shall be pure if it takes John Davenport and every crimiaul in our cities to give them purity ; they shall be conducted without appearance of viilence if artillory has to bo trained on ever? ballot-box. and thi'v shall be fair if we have to arrest every man ofTorin" to vote the Democratic ticket." What the people mist needed was rest. The policy of conciliation pursued by the Democracy of the N nth would alone secure this rest. IXcLAHE'S' CELEBRATED tilVEIi PILLS, FOR THE CURE OF Hepatitis, or Liver Complaint; CTirlMIA AMD SICK BaASAOU. Symptoms of a Diseased Liver; PAIN in the right side, under the edge of the ribs, increases on pre, sure; sometimes the pain is in the left side; the patient is rarely able to lie on the left side ; sometimes the pain ii felt under the shoulder blade, and it frequently extends to the top of the shoulder, and is sometimes mistaken for rheumatism in the arm. The stomach is affected with loss of" appe. tite and sickness; the bowels in gen. cral are costive, sometimes alternative with lax; the head is troubled with, pain, accompanied with a dull, heavy sensation in the back part. There is generally a considerable loss of mem ory, accompanied with a painful sen sation of having left undone some thing which ought to have been done A slight, dry cough is sometimes an attendant. The patient complains of weariness and debility; he is easily startled, his feet are cold or burning, ' and he complains of a prickly sensa tion of the skin; his spirits are low and although he is satisfied that exerl cise would be beneficial to him, yet he can scarcely summon up fortitude enough to try it. In fact, he distrusts every remedy. Several of the above symptoms attend the disease, but cases have occurred where few of them ex isted, yet examination of the body, after death, has shown the liver to have been extensively deranged. AGUE AND FEVER. Dr. C. McLane's Liver Pills, h cases or Ague and Fever, when taken with Quinine, are productive of the most happy results. No better cathartic can be used, preparatory to, or after taking Quinine. We would advise all who are afflicted with this disease to give them a fair trial. - For all bilious derangements, and as a simple purgative, they arc unequaled. beware of lit itatioks. The genuine are never sugar coated. Every box has a red wax eal on the lid, with the impression Dr. McLahe's Livsa Pills. The genuine McLake's Liver Pills bear tbe signatures of C. McLane and Fleming Bros, on the wrappers. , Insist upon having the genuine Dr. C. McLane's Liver Pills, prepared by Flem. ing Bros., of Pittsburgh, Pa., the market being full of imitations of the name McLane, spelled differently but same pronunciation. Q ALE FOR TAX E3.
