IN MEMORIAM, MABT COLLINS CUAMDEHS, DIED, SEPT. 2, 1003. It is seldom that our community lias been bo touched sud inuved, as it was by the Bad illness and death of .Visa Mary CoIHdb Chambers, who entered into eternal rest last Wednesday, September the second, a little past eight o'clock in the evening. With the exception of a few year, Miss Chambers had spent her eotire life in Napcrville. Iler father is the Rev. J. Taylor Chambers, of Weldon, N. C, and Iler mother was Min Emma Collins ol this city. She W8B bnrn in St. Jobo'y rectory, while her father was rector of this parish, and was baptized oo the fol lowing Ascension day. Her family movid to St. Cloud, Minn., soon after t hip. where her mother died when jlie waf only a few years old. On this account her father brought her back to this ciiy, where she had lived with her aunts in the o'd Collins' homestead, until the time of her death. Few profile have been tuoru universal ly loved and respected lhau was Mary. Not only for her quiet, modest bearing or her gentle graces, lul ilso for Inr sweet christian piety, and her lift long devotion to ber church. For year the had the entire caro of the sucted altar in the little church she loved "-well, aud this was one of her greatest pleasures to minister about sacred tilings in the house of Ood, up to the time of her illness, she directed the Altar Guild of yoUDg ladies, taught in the Sunday school, and until the past year or two she was also the "choir mother," looking after the needs of the little choristers. Not only in her parish church, but al io in the community at large, she xa loved and respected. Faithful, alike in her home and church duiiis, she ever fouod time to visit the sick and afflicted and to spend an afternoon each week in reading to an aged parishioner. Outside of her own circle of friends, she was widely known through her services at Nichols Library, and although her final illness cut short her work there, her wide knowledge of books, her kindness and helpfulness endeared her to many. During her long illness of eight months she was the recipent af countless atten tions and testimonials, which spoke loud er than words, ol the influence she had exerted by her useful life. Aod it must have been a great comfort In herself and her family, to know that in this life we sometimes reap the reward of the good detds we have done. The peculiar character ot her disease, which deprived her of all nouri.-li rut Dt whatever, made her final illness especial ly pathetic. But to the end her mind was clear aod active, she made cartful preparation for death, calui) and peace fully, with cheerful submission to U ,d's will. It was a great joy and blessing to her, for the lat three days of her life, to have all the consolation and uiioUtrxtiona of the church. Thus surrounded by lu r family her sweet gentle spirit passed from earth, aud her soul returned to the God who gave it, The last sad rites took place io the church she dearly loved, the Altar so of ten decked by those folded hands, shone resplendent with its twinkling tapers, and its hundreds of flowers, as pure and white ta her own soul. And it needed not that crowded church, those tearful eyes, that touching service to teach us the truth of those words which floated up Irom the grave-side. "Blessed are the dead who die io the Lord; even so saith the spirit; for they rest from their labors." Naperville (III.) Clarion. SAVES TWO FROM DEATH. "Our little daughter had an almost fa tal attack of whooping cough and bron chitis," writes Mrs. W. K. Haviland, of Aruionk, N.
