With peanuts at 3 cents per pound; Cotton swinging around towards the eleven cents figures; tobacco advancing in prices; eggs 25 cents per dilon; chickens away up io the pictures, and everything on the farm proportionally high, the farmers of Hali fax and other oounties, as well, should be in fine sririts. This is surely the farmers opportunity and the thrifty are not slow to grasp it. And by keeping their corn cribs, wheat bins and smoke houses at borne they will oontinue to prosper. Warning as to Mexican Dollars. The Atlantic Coast Line railroad com pany has IWued a circular io which it warns tbo travelling public against brokers who are working a soft snap by giving in change Mexican dollars. For instance, af, passenger enters the office of broker, buys a ticket, say for one dollar, and presents a ten dollar bill. Her Brightest Gems At this season of thanksgiving, when the offer ings in all the churches will be for Ihe orphans and the destitute of the State, it may be well to remember that the first orphan asylum was established at Oxford by Mr. John Mills, supported by the Masons. Sinoe that timo orphanagrs ave been established at Charlotte, by the Episcopalians; at Tbomaaville by ihe Baptists; at Raleigh, by the Methodists; Barium Springs, by the Presbyterians; at oldsboro, by the Odd Fellows; the riends at Arcudale, and the Catholics at Raleigh. There is not one of those institutions that does not need large Thanksgiving donations to carry on their noble work. GiveTuanks To-day Today will be generally observed throughout the United States as a day of thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bletsings of the past year, and appropriate services will be held throughout the land, The Lord has abundantly Misted the soil and the earth has yielded a rich har vest and there is plenty in the land. It is our duty, and should be a pleasure, fur all to assemble in their respective places of worship to-day and give thanks for the blessings we, as 1 people, enjoy. While many may not have all the comfoits of life, it should be remembered that tbous- nds are without even the necessaries ol life and depend up the charities of our noble institutions. Therefore our greatest comfort and happiness today should con sist in giving liberally to the poor, the destitute snd ths little orphans. Superior Court.
