Inge, about six toilet from town, on Wodnesduy morning of last week, de stroyed the saw mill, ootton gin and about 4,000 feet of lumber. The plan ning mill waa badly damaged. Sam Green, colored, who worked for the Weldon Lumber Company, I. id his left srm severed from his body Saturday night by an Atlantic Coast Line traio. It Is not known ex actly how the aocident oocurred, as Sam could oot remember just why be waa on the tiaok, nor when the accident occur red. He had a lot of bundles and waa returning to his home near the lair grounds. It is supposed that he was asleep upon the track. After the train had cut his arm off, he got up, took bis bundles, and walked home, several hun dreds yards from the place wbere the accident occurred, before he was con scious of the fact that his arm was miss ing. Dr. Green waa immediately sent for, but being at home aiok, Dr. Hoyt attended the irjurad man, who was later taken to the Coast Line hospital at Rocky Mount. Judge R. It. Peebles bas exchanged courts with Judge Long for the second district and will preside at Halifax Su perior court which begins August 21st, Judge Peebles wrote Clerk of the Court S. M. Gary that the clerk was expected to have a liberal supply of watermelons in band sod that the clerk who failed in this would be in a blue row. Mr. Gary is now io the market for melons and will do his best to provide some of the finest end best. Not Yet Ready to Report. The bridge committee, appointed some lime since by the town board of commissioners, waa not ready to report when the city fathers met last Monday, and asked for more time. Sixty days more hss been granted the committee. Since tho ap pointment of this committee the mem bers have boen diligent in obtaining all the information possible as to the cost of a bridge over Roanoke river. But they are not yet ready to make any report whatever. The committee and every one interested in this matter realize that it is an important undertaking and it is best to go slow io the metier. Reduced Rates For Home Cominu Robesonians. The Atlsntio Coast Line announces that tickets for the Home Comiug Week for Robesonians, Red Springs, N. C, will be sold at one first olssa fsre plus twenty-five oents. Tickets will be sold August 18th, 19th and 20th and for trains scheduled to reach Red Springs before ooon of August 21st., limited to September first for return. Extension of the final limit to September 30th may be obtained by depositing the ticket with the Agent Red Springa between August 21st and September 1st, and payment of fee of fifty oents. Mr. Andrew Joynir's Home Robbed The following item which appeared in the New York Sunday Tele gram will interest Halifax county people, Mr. Joyoer being native of this place. The Telegram says : "The Sheepshead Bay home of A. J. Joyoer, waa broken ioto yesterday. The wire received by Mr. Joyner at Saratoga informing him of the burglary was not very explicit but the inference is that the burglars took everything away ex cept the gas fixtures and the plumbing, Mr. Joyner has not yet been able to estimate his loss, The house contained most of Mr. and Mrs Joyoer'a clothing, and besides plate and jewelry, which were in a sale, there were many valuable ruga Just prior to lesving for Ssratoga Mr Joyoer took out a burglary insurance policy for $8,000. Tho 30th annual fair of the Roanoke and Tar River Agricultural Society will be held at the grounds here on October 24th, 25th,2fltb, and 27th.
