Dr. J. A. Collins, of EnKeld, and Dr. J. B. Wimber ly, of Scotland Neck. The com mittee re-elected Dr. I. E. Green, superintendent of health for the en suing term of two years. M., '. Weldon, N. C. 5-13-1907. ."- Death of an Infant. Cora i Estelle, infant daughter of Mr. and - Mrs. H. L. Grant, died at the home of her parents Monday af- temoon, aged 9 months. The funeral service took place , at the home of her parents Tues day morning at 11 o'clock, con iiucted by Rev. H. A. Humble, of ? the M. E. Church, and the inter ment was in the family square at r Cedarwood cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Grant and the grand parents have much svmpa : thy in their sad affliction. D. E. Stainback, clerk. It was ordered that in future that all regular meetings of the board be held in the town hall on the first Monday in each month at 8 o'clock p. m. The selection of the various com mittees will be made at the next regular meeting of the board. Death of Mrs. Thomas Dick ens. Mrs. T. H. Dickens, wife of Postmaster Dickens, at Enfield, died at her home near Aurelian Springs last Thursday. The funeral services took place from her late home Friday after noon and were conducted by Rev. J. T. Draper. The interment was in the family burying ground at the old homestead. Mrs. Dickens was a splendid Christian woman and was a mem ber of Ebenezer M. E. Church. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends and a profu sion of Horal offerings, attesting the love and esteem in which she ; was held. the Episcopal convention. Mrs. R. G. Kendrick and chil dren, of Mount Olive, are visiting i Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Pierce. i Mrs. Thad R. Manning, of Hen derson, was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Stainback last week. Mrs. S. W. Leggett, who has ; been visiting relatives and friends i in Norfolk, has returned home. Mr. B. A. Pope left Tuesday for 1 Elizabeth City to attend the annua' meeting of the Grand Lodge of Odd Fellows. Rev. George M. Tolson left Tuesday for Tarboro "to attend the annual convention of the Episcopal Church of the North Carolina Dio cese. i Mrs. Manic Cornwall and son, ' Mr. Craig Cornwall, of Richmond, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Stainback. Mrs. Stainback and Mrs. Cornwall are sisters. , Mr. R. C. l.assiier has returned to Weldon and has again accepted a position with C. R. Emry & Co. His many Weldon friends are glad to welcome him home again. Mrs. Mitchell, of Raleigh, who has been here on a visit to her neice, Mrs. T. C. Harrison, return ed home Thursday. Mrs. Harri son accompanied her to Raleigh. Colonel W. H. S. Burgwyn has been requested to respond to the address of welcome at the annual meeting of the State Bankers' As sociation to be held in Winston Salem, May 22nd to 24th. An earnest prayer by Rev. Geo. j M. Tolson, rector of Grace Church, followed. A splendid address was then de livered by Superintendent R. H. Latham. , "Carolina," by the school chil dren was the next on the pro gramme and this was delightfully rendered. Miss l.fllie Stainback, of the 8th ; grade, then recited the "Conquer-! ed Banner." Colonel Burgwyn then delivered , to the veterans present crosses of honor and made a few timely re-' marks. The crosses were pinned , on the veterans by the young la dies of the 7th and 8th grades. The school then rendered "The ! i Bonnie Blue Flag." ' Rev. P. N. Stainback then de lighted the qudience with one of his characteristic speeches, interspers ed with pathos and humor. "The Deathless March" was re cited by Miss Ida Phillips. "America," was the next on the programme and this was sung by the entire school with spirit. Major Emry then called on Dr. A. R. Zollicoffer, who was one of the youngest of the Confederate soldiers, and he made a few timely remarks, thanking the ladies in the name of the veterans who had i been decorated with the crosses of honor, priceless gifts, assuring them of his hearty appreciation. This closed the exercises and the audience was dismissed by a benediction by Rev. H. A. Willis. Rone, presiding elder of the Warrenton district, preach ed morning and evening at the M. E. Church, Sunday. The church was well crowded at both services and the sermons of Presiding El der Rone were specially helpful and uplifting, and he wts given the closest attention I y all resent. Monday morning the presiding elder held his second quarterly conference with the official tdy of the church, and the reports of stewards were most satisfactory. The body was met at the train by a number of the friends of the family, and was taken to Grace Church where the funeral services were conducted by Rev. Geo. M. Tolson, at 3 o'clock in the after noon. The interment was in the family square at Cedarwood ceme tery. ! Mr. Lynn came to Weldon when he was quite a young man and for a long time he was bookkeeper at Hurrell's Printing House. He was married some years ago to Miss Nora McNamee, of Tarboro, and after their marriage Mrs. Lynn's mother and sister, now Mrs. C. L. Clark, moved here. Mr. Lynn is survived by his wife who has the sympathy of the en lire community in her sorrow. Mr. Lynn was a very competent bookkeeper, and for quite a while he was head bookkeeper for the United Industrial Company at Roa noke Rapids. ' t;or the past two or three years Mr. and Mrs. Lynn had been living at Newport News. , Va., where Mr. Lynn was engaged in the insurance business. He was for a long time one of the most ac- ; live members of Crace Church and served on the vestry for sev- ; eral years and was at one lime su perintendent of the Sunday school and a lay reader in the church. Cohen will be pleased to learn that he has been promoted from pas senger conductor to Travelling , Passenger Agent of the Atlantic 1 Coast Line Railway with headquar ters at Jacksonville, Fla. Captain Cohen is a brother of Qwheelock Upright, Mr. w. m. uonen, or tms town, and is a native of Enfield. The Florida Times-Union says of his promotion: "Mr. Cohen has long been iden tified with the Atlantic Coasi Line through Virginia and the Caroli nas, and if the traveling public is 1 any judge, was one of the most j popular men in that section. The Atlantic Coast Line is mak ing a strong bid for the Jamestown Exposition travel. Double daily service and quick time. Mr. Co hen has made a special study of the situation, having been on the ground the greater part of the time during the construction of the ex position, is therefore, in position to give the Atlantic Coast Line pa trons full benefit of his knowledge which in his usual way will be gra ciously granted.
