ATLANTIC COAST DISTRICT CONFERENCE. ; Annual Session Held at Littleton Last Week Splendid Reports Made By Pastors. i Warrenion District Conference ! convened in the beautiful town of ' Littleton Thursday morning, V j S. Rone, Presiding LMder in the I chair, a large delegation being present. Atier roll call J.I. ilythe was elected secretary. The reports from pastors of the various charges were excellent. Indications are that the district will pay all its assessments in full. A prominent feature of the con ference was Layman's Day, in whici prominent laymen discussed various topics of vital interest to the church in a most interesting manner. The preaching was ably done by Revs. J. li. Holden. J. N. Cole, J. C. Kilgo and U. M. Norih. Warrenion District is situated in one of the Hnest farming sections of the State, it is one uf the nine districts of the North Carolina Con ference, and contains 80 churches and over 8,000 members of intel ligent Methodists. The following were electeJ dele gates to the annual conference : J. T. riythe, J. H. Bridgers, Dr. M. Bolton and Raymond Brown ing. The District Conference will be held next year at Jackson. The many good homes of the town were thrown open to the conference with that lavish hospi tality which has ever characterized the people of Halifax and Warren counties in which Littleton is situ ated. The Weldon delegation returned home highly pleased with their visit and entertainment and say it was one of the best District Con ferences ever held. We are still "going to and fro in ! the earth and walking up and down in it;" though reports from our little village are, as the old lady said about her teeth, "so seldom." Children's Day services were held at Bethesda church here July 12th. There was a large crowd and good collection. Immediately after the benediction, and while the audience remained seated, the S. S. children marched out w ith flowers and decorated the grave of Mr. J. I:. Hunter, for so many years their beloved and faithful su perintendent. Mr. M. A. Harris has returned from Baltimore. Hon. T. H. Taylor has just re turned from a visit to Philadelphia Miss Mary Norman is visiting in Tarboro. Mrs. liva Davis, of Weldon, is visiting in this neighborhood. Considerable damage was done j to crops in this community by the rain week before last the hardest j known here for a long time. ! And so our great conventions i are over save one and the Bry-' unites and the Johnsonites and the I Craigites and the Kitchiniies can ' cease from troubling and be at rest while the "Hittites" and "Jebu siies" are yet to be heard from when ihe biale ucpuuhcans, meet. We "take olf our hats" to Bry an. Like "truth, crushed to earth," he "rises again." Wheth er he be elected or defeated again, liryan is yet a great man. The man must be great who so fully possesses t h e love, and esteem, and the confidence of his countrymen as to be three limes put in nomination by them for the highest office in ihe United States. What other living man has such a record? As to his political views we have no comment. M. H. July 13, 1908. ilii('(tuir:itt'iii SUfTOLK, VIRGINIA.
